The African Leaders of Tomorrow (ALofT) Project is an online-based youth development programme designed to cultivate future thought leaders by empowering exceptional young Africans. The program is open to African students in any field of business, economic, political or social development (including but not limited to agriculture and other related themes). The 6-month project is structured around a web-based curriculum, delivered via an e-learning platform. The International Council for Science, in collaboration with several partner organizations, invites applications for the IRDR (Integrated Research on Disaster Risk) Young Scientists Program. The program offers young scientists (under age 40) of any nationality the opportunity to engage with a global network of professionals and practitioners. The Water for Women Fund aims to improve health, gender equality, and well-being of Asian and Pacific communities. Research organisations are invited to submit proposals for the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Research Awards. Applications must be submitted by research organisations or institutions (individual researchers are not eligible). The Funding Round is open to Australian and international non-profit institutions or organisations. Applicants may request between AU$100 thousand and AU$400 thousand per year for up to two years. U.S. Department of Agriculture — Borlaug Cocoa Fellowships 2019
The USDA invites applications for the 2019 Borlaug Cocoa Fellowships. The program aims to provide fellows with the skills and knowledge in the production and marketing of cocoa and cocoa products. Fellows from eligible countries in West Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean work with a mentor at USDA’s Agricultural Research Service or a U.S. university for up to 12 weeks. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Protecting the Cerrado in Brazil
The CEPF calls for proposals that contribute towards the conservation of the Cerrado Biodiversity Hotspot in Brazil. CEPF posts the ecosystem profile, and a list of key biodiversity areas, in the announcement. Eligibility for funding extends to community groups and associations, NGOs, private enterprises, universities, research institutes, and other civil society organizations. Overseas Development Institute — Fellowships 2019-21
The Overseas Development Institute (ODI) is an independent think tank on international development and humanitarian issues. The ODI Fellowship Scheme appoints highly qualified postgraduate economists and statisticians through a competitive selection process. The fellowship scheme is open to candidates of all nationalities who have a master’s degree or PhD in economics, statistics or a related field. Suitable specialised qualifications at postgraduate level include agricultural economics, environmental economics, water and climate, among others. European Commission — Environmentally Sustainable Beef Meat Industry in Uganda
The European Commission aims to minimise the environmental impact of livestock and prioritise animal welfare in Uganda. The priority under this call are smallholders and small beef-related agribusiness to ensure an environmentally sustainable, climate-resilient, low-emission, local and regional meat industry. Grants requested under this call for proposals may fall between €300 thousand and €1.3 million. The European Commission supports local civil society organisations in Malawi tackling climate change and mitigating its adverse effects. Focus areas of this call are (Lot 1) poverty alleviation through mitigating the impacts of climate change on the lives of community members, and (Lot 2) sustainable management of waste to enable the transition to a climate-resilient, low emissions economy. The World Bank Group invites applications for the “Sustainable Development Goals and Her Competition”. SDGs & Her is an online competition for women micro-entrepreneurs to showcase how they are supporting the SDGs through their business operations. Winners will receive leadership training, mentoring and will be flown to Washington DC, for an event at the World Bank Group-IMF Spring Meetings (April 2019). Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Biotechnology for a Sustainable Bioeconomy
This call offers funding for biotechnologies and transnational collaborative research projects. Proposals should address the sustainable production of different types of feedstocks and bioresources into value-added products or the development of sustainable industrial processes and supply services. BBSRC contributes up to £2 million under this call. To be eligible, each consortium must involve at least three partners requesting funding from three different countries.
