Strengthening Human Rights and Peace Research and Education in ASEAN/Southeast Asia (SHAPE-SEA) hosts an essay writing competition for undergraduate students from Southeast Asia. Students are asked to write a paper on the right to a safe, clean, and sustainable environment and raise their voice on diverse issues and lived experiences reflecting the state of the environment and human rights in the region. Eligibility extends to Southeast Asian undergraduate students currently enrolled in a Southeast Asia tertiary academic institution. The winners receive small cash prizes. ETH Zurich — Research Partnership Grants Asia
The Research Partnership Grants support research projects with collaborating institutions in China, Japan, South Korea, and ASEAN member states. Researchers may request a total of CHF25 thousand to conduct feasibility studies or pilot projects in order to apply for grants from larger funding agencies. The grant builds on existing collaborations between researchers and scientists affiliated to a Swiss institution. The call is open to all scientific disciplines and fields of research, including social sciences and humanities. Earth Journalism Network — Media Workshop on Natural Resource Governance
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) hosts a media workshop with the aim to improve journalists’ knowledge and reporting skills to tell impactful and in-depth stories about natural resources governance in the Mekong region. The three-day workshop will be held in English in early July, at a venue in Thailand. Following the training, participants will be invited to pitch story ideas. EJN will award 16 grants of US$1,500 each to journalists to produce their proposed stories. The GMS Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Program invites applications for pilot demonstration projects. Demonstration proposals from the following themes are accepted: Climate and disaster resilience; Low-carbon transitions; Transboundary climate-smart landscapes; Digital technology for climate actions and environmental sustainability; Financing low-carbon and climate-resilient infrastructure and technology. The call for proposals is directed at GMS countries including Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Thailand, and Vietnam. Bayan Tree Global Foundation accepts applications for the “2024 Greater Good Grants,” which aim to impactful initiatives that benefit local communities and environments in Mexico, Cuba, Morocco, Islands in Eastern Africa and Southeast Asia. The main focus areas for projects include freshwater access, alternative livelihood development that protects the environment, management of food waste and humanitarian themes. One Young World — Asia Scholarships to Participate in the One Young World Summit 2023
The One Young World Summit brings together young talents (ages 18-30) from many nationalities to share solutions addressing the world’s pressing issues. One Young World offers the Leading Asia Scholarship to ensure that the most qualified young leaders participate in the Summit, regardless of their ability to pay. United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization — Silk Roads Youth Research Grant
UNESCO launches the ‘Silk Roads Youth Research Grant’. The program aims to mobilize young researchers for further study of the Silk Roads shared heritage, and will award 12 research grants to young researchers under 35 years of age. Grant applicants are invited to address areas of academic study which relate to the shared heritage and plural identities of the Silk Roads, including, but not limited to Science and Technology (however, proposed projects must focus on the results of cultural interactions and exchanges). The proposed research may be carried out by an individual researcher or may be part of a group or collaborative project. UNESCO will award 12 grants of US$10 thousand. U.S. Government — Advancing Environmental Journalism in the Southeast Asia Region
The U.S. Government announces an open competition for organizations interested in submitting applications for projects that advance environmental journalism in Southeast Asia. Projects may have a duration of up to 48 months and should have an impact that leads to reforms. Applicants can request grants between US$740 thousand and US$1.4 million. U.S. Government — International Environmental Governance Capacity Building
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency seeks applications for a collaborative program that would enhance environmental governance capacity in several regions in Central America and the Caribbean, South America, the Middle East and North Africa, and other bilateral initiatives, including Mexico, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Sub-Sahara Africa, Ukraine, and Brazil. Applications will be accepted from local governments; international organizations; public and private universities; and non-profit institutions. The Swedish Institute Management Program (SIMP) Asia seeks ambitious and innovative leaders who want to learn more about sustainable business practices.
