Newable accepts applications to join the Global Young Innovators Program. Entrepreneurs and young inventors from South Africa and the United Kingdom are invited to generate innovative ideas to help address five challenges in South Africa. The challenges include the categories low-carbon economy and sustainable solutions for urban and rural communities, related to water, sustainable agriculture and fisheries. Participants take part in a training program, receive mentorship, and have the chance to pitch a R200 thousand funding grant. Participants from South Africa have to be between 18 and 30 years old. Startup Grind invites participants for the Startup Summit (22 February 2021). Startup Summit is a virtual bootcamp for startups and provides free access to workshops on fundraising, networking, and investor matchmaking. Regional Studies Association — Awards in Regional Studies
The Regional Studies Association (RSA) covers issues in the fields of climate change, energy, migration, and economic development. RSA makes awards to recent Masters graduates, PhD students, and early-career researchers who made an original and outstanding contribution to the field of regional studies. Award winners receive £500. Grants have no geographical limitation, past award holders come from Egypt, Argentina, China, etc. The deadline for nominations (both self-nominations and third-party nominations) is 30 April 2021. German Academic Exchange Service — Climate Research Fellowship
ClimapAfrica supports research on climate change and possible solutions. African PhD students are invited to submit postdoctoral climate research projects to one of the following research areas: Agriculture, Climate Science, Veterinary Medicine, Biodiversity, Food Security, Marine Science, Energy, Water Resources, and Forest Sustainability, among others. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) awards fellowships of max. €10 thousand, plus a monthly allowance to cover research costs for a period of 12 to 18 months. Fellows can apply for additional funding to cover a temporary research stay in Germany (2-6 months) to work on a specific research question. The application deadline is 15 February 2021. German Government — International Climate Initiative Peru
Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) supports projects on climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable energy, and biodiversity projects with climate relevance in Peru. The German Government will support projects ranging from €12 million to €15 million. European Commission — Land-Based & Offshore Renewable Energy Technologies
The European Commission seeks applications for innovative land-based and offshore renewable energy technologies. Proposals should address either the development of land-based renewable energy technologies or innovative technologies to enable future large scale deployment of offshore renewable energy. Land-based energy projects may request a contribution of €3-6 million. Off-shore energy projects may request a contribution of up to €25 million. U.S. Mission to Russia — One Planet: Environment, Health, and Science
The U.S. Mission to Russia announces the “One Planet: Environment, Health, and Science” grant, which supports the promotion of environmental, health, and scientific issues in Russia. The U.S. Embassy invites proposals for projects that promote collaboration between Russia and the United States in the areas of health, science, technology, the environment, and energy. Applicants may apply for funding for any amount up to US$200 thousand. U.S. and Russian nonprofits, universities, civil society, museums, reserves, and community organizations are eligible. The energy company Enel seeks future solutions for the global energy landscape to ensure a sustainable energy transition in relation to Covid-19 and other pandemics. The company is interested in innovative methods to optimize remote working as well as digitalize workflows to make traditional businesses more efficient and create new opportunities for transition towards cleaner energy. The Vietnamese-Swiss Joint Research Program enables researchers in Switzerland to carry out joint projects with research partners in Vietnam. The program supports ambitious research and innovative approaches in all areas of research. A maximum of CHF250 thousand per project will be available for the Swiss part for a project period of up to 3 years. Proposals have to be jointly prepared by Swiss and Vietnamese applicants. 4Revs Innovation Challenge is a global call for solutions in food, water, resources, climate change and energy that will help humanity solve survival challenges in one generation (2020-2050). Innovators are invited to submit solutions that are already in the market and contribute to at least one of the 4 Revolutions: Sustainable Agriculture and Food Supply; Water Conservation and Management; Ecosystem Restoration; Climate Change and Sustainable Energy.
