University of Waterloo — Online Workshop: Green Entrepreneurship

The University of Waterloo, in partnership with the Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) and the EcoInnovation Network, invites students and aspiring entrepreneurs to register in a six-part series of free online workshops on green entrepreneurship. The workshop targets researchers, youth, aspiring environmental and social entrepreneurs from across North America (including Mexico). The workshop provides practical knowledge and resources for those interested in launching green startups. Sessions start on 27 October 2020 with simultaneous translation in three languages (English, French and Spanish). Link to more information

Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership — Cleantech Challenge

The Africa-Europe Innovation Partnership, funded by the European Commission, aims to connect high-quality tech hubs from both continents to explore opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships. The Cleantech Challenge seeks startups from Africa and Europe in the clean energy sector with the aim to match African and European startups to co-create complementary innovative clean energy solutions. European Commission — Green Transition and Energy Access in Africa

The Horizon 2020-funded European Green Deal Call seeks to support research and innovation projects that respond to the climate crisis and help protect unique ecosystems and biodiversity. The strategic call “Accelerating the green transition and energy access Partnership with Africa” invites proposals for energy solutions that consider climate adaptation and mitigation potential with the aim of providing sustainable energy access in Africa. The Commission considers proposals requesting a contribution of between €5-10 million. At least two partners from at least one African country must be part of the consortium to be eligible for funding. The application deadline is 26 January 2021. Link

King Baudouin Foundation — Subsidies in Support of Sustainable Development

The Business Partnership Facility awards subsidies to support and develop private sector involvement in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in developing countries. The project must contribute to achieving at least one clearly identified SDG. Funding of up to €200 thousand is available. Partnerships must comprise actors from the private sector, civil society, academia and/or the public sector, with at least one organization from the for-profit private sector. Lithuanian Development Cooperation — Development Cooperation Projects 2021

Lithuanian Development Cooperation makes grants to fund projects in developing partner countries. Submitted project applications must conform to the multilateral and/or bilateral strategic agreements between partner countries in Eastern Europe (detailed in the announcement), this includes environmental protection and sustainable agriculture technologies, among other thematic areas. Project applications worth less than €15 thousand should be primarily submitted to the diplomatic missions of Lithuania. Deadline for the submission of project applications is 03 November 2020. EnAccess Foundation — Open Source Innovations for Energy Access

The EnAccess Foundation invites proposals for open source innovations focusing on providing energy access with livelihood focus in Tanzania. The idea is to provide households, businesses, and institutions with access to electricity and reduce energy poverty. Each project may request a grant of up to US$ 150 thousand. Eligibility extends to start-ups, companies, non-profits, individual innovators, investors, and researchers. Organizations should have a minimum of 1-2 years of business operations. The final submission deadline is 30 October 2020. Projects are selected for funding on a rolling basis, therefore, earlier submissions are highly recommended. Energy Access

Netherlands Enterprise Agency — DHI Subsidy Scheme

The DHI scheme aims to increase and strengthen the number of Dutch companies operating successfully in emerging markets and developing countries. DHI focuses on SMEs in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom with interest in foreign markets (especially developing and emerging economies). Dutch SMEs can request subsidies for feasibility studies (with a foreign partner), investment preparation projects, or demonstration projects of a technology, product or service in the target country. Subsidies for DHIs are between €25 thousand and €200 thousand per project. The scheme is open to projects in all countries. The deadline to apply for a DHI subsidy is 31 December 2020. 100,000 Strong in the Americas — Higher Education for Sustainability in Mexico

The US-Mexico Innovation Fund Competition is designed to create and foster partnerships between higher education (HEIs) in Mexico and the United States that provide new student exchange and training programs in the academic themes of Green/Renewable Energy, Sustainable Agriculture, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) and others. The Innovation Fund intends to award up to 11 grants of US$25 thousand. Higher education institutions in Mexico and the United States are eligible to apply. The deadline to apply is 15 February 2021. European Commission — Women Empowerment and Small Enterprises Support

The European Commission (EC) seeks to increase energy access of households, public institutions and small enterprises to affordable, reliable and modern energy in Zambia. The EC invites big scale projects that focus on poor and vulnerable women in high density low income townships in Lusaka. Applicants may request a financial contribution of up to €1.9 million. Business Partnerships Platform — COVID-19 Recovery

The Australian Government calls for partnerships to help support COVID-19 recovery in Bangladesh, Nepal, Philippines, Timor-Leste and Tonga. The program seeks projects which create social impact in the following areas: green recovery (including tourism), economic opportunities (including agriculture, renewable energy), capacity building, and digitalisation. Selected projects will receive from A$100 thousand to A$500 thousand in funding to scale a business initiative for social impact.
