StartupXs launches the COVID-19 Response Fund for start-ups and social enterprises with the aim to support early-stage social entrepreneurs to adapt to the pandemic. Support extends to social entrepreneurs whose projects focus on natural resources as well as other categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory. Participation is open to any start-up or social enterprise worldwide. Priority is given to early-stage start-ups launching innovative products or ideas. One winner will receive US$1000. European Union and the Government of India — India-EU Joint Call on Integrated Local Energy Systems
The EU-India Clean Energy and Climate Partnership seeks to strengthen international cooperation in renewable energy research and innovation. Proposals should develop and demonstrate novel energy solutions for higher energy efficiency. The project must be carried out by a consortium of at least three organizations from India and three entities from Europe. DG Trésor — Innovative Solutions for the Reduction of Waste
DG Trésor invites companies to submit innovative ideas and project proposals for innovative solutions for the reduction and recovery of waste in the developing world. Up to 12 selected French SMEs and start-ups will receive up to €500 thousand to implement their project idea. Proposed projects can fall within the areas of general waste management, environmental management, energy recovery from waste, or agricultural waste management, among others. British Council — Newton Workshop Grants for Researchers
Newton Researcher Links Workshops bring together early-career researchers from the UK and partner countries to allow them to make international connections that can improve the quality of their research. Subject areas for the workshops vary by partner country to include agriculture, climate and environment, sustainable energy, water and sanitation, and several others. The Newton Fund provides funding for international development-relevant research workshops up to £50 thousand. The current call is open for bilateral workshops between the UK with either of China, India, or the Philippines. Proposals must be joint applications, with one coordinator based at a UK institution and one based in a partner country. The application deadline is 12 June 2020. The Newton Fund Researcher Links Travel Grants support early-career researchers to undertake an international research placement to strengthen links for future collaboration. UK’s current partner country for these travel grants is South Africa. Subject areas for the workshops vary by partner country to include agriculture, climate and environment, sustainable energy, water and sanitation, and several others. Researchers that reside in the UK can apply for funding to visit a university or research institution. Researchers residing in South Africa can apply for funding to come to the UK. SNV Netherlands — Innovations Against Poverty
SNV invites the private sector to develop products, services, and business models that contribute to the fight against poverty and climate change. The program is designed for companies which are operational or plan to enter the market (with a local partner in case of international companies) in any of energy; water and sanitation; agriculture and food; and cross-sectoral. The call is designed for companies that are operational in Cambodia, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Zambia. The program provides advisory support and non-reimbursable funding for up to 49% of total investment ranging from €50 thousand to €200 thousand. The Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC), under the program Horizon 2020, invites applications for the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU) call for proposals. The objective of this call is to contribute to develop a more resource efficient and sustainable low carbon economy, particularly in rural areas, by using renewable biological resources for the production of bio-based products and biofuels. The call is open worldwide, however, only participants from EU, associated and developing countries are automatically eligible for funding. The call is open to academic institutions, non-profit organizations, and private enterprises. The goal of the Jordan-UK El Hassan bin Talal Research Chair in Sustainability is to enhance the research and innovation capacity of Jordan for long-term sustainable development. The call is open to applicants with expertise in any area relevant to sustainability, including but not limited to food security, water, energy and the environment, climate change, and sustainable livelihoods.
