United States Agency for International Development — Household Solar Workforce Development Africa

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the ResilientAfrica Network (RAN) invite applications for the Household Solar Workforce Development Challenge. Projects should focus on the development of off-grid solar home systems for households and businesses across Sub-Saharan Africa. The call is open to for-profit, nonprofit organizations, social enterprises, and academic institutions with demonstrated capabilities and programs in energy workforce development. The selected organizations will receive awards ranging from US$100 thousand to US$350 thousand for project implementation over the course of one year. French Government — Access to Energy in Africa

The French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) and the French Development Agency (AFD) seek French companies or NGOs with innovations for access to energy for people not connected to energy networks. The involvement of local African actors (local companies, NGOs, local authorities) is desirable. Environmental criteria of each project (use of renewable energies, environmental management of water; impact on biodiversity, climate change, etc.) are an important evaluation factor. German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety — International Climate Initiative (Country Specific Call: India)

Germany’s International Climate Initiative (IKI) supports projects on climate change mitigation and adaptation, and biodiversity projects that have climate relevance. Currently, IKI seeks to support programs in India. Thematic priorities are (1) Forest landscape restoration and piloting new models in forestry (including in urban areas); and (2) Storage technology for renewable energy. The IKI will support two bilateral programs with a funding volume of €15 million each, and a duration of five to seven years. Application is open to NGOs, business enterprises, universities, research institutes, and international and multinational organisations worldwide. German Embassy — Small-Scale Project Funding for Bangladesh

Germany provides direct financial assistance to NGOs, local communities and religious institutions for the implementation of a small project for the benefit of disadvantaged groups of society in Bangladesh. Organizations may apply for up to €25 thousand. Project proposals may be submitted to the Embassy as hard copy by 30 November 2019. Small-Scale Project Funding 2020 

International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis — Science Communication Fellowship 2020

IIASA is an international scientific institute that conducts research into the critical issues of global environmental, economic, technological, and social change. The International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) accepts applications for its summer 2020 Science Communication Fellowship. The science communication fellow will gain experience in communicating complex systems science for a general audience through a variety of platforms. Program areas include energy, ecology, water, greenhouse gases, risk and resilience, among others.The stipend is €4 thousand for three months. The application deadline is 11 January 2020. Link

European Union — Support for Entrepreneurs in the MENA Region

The Next Society launches its 3rd call for applications to join the Start-up Booster Track, a program that offers tailor-made support to Mediterranean startups. Participants will learn how to raise fund through workshops and training. The track is open for innovative early-stage startups with products or services in the following areas: Tech & Software, Food, Environment, Energy, Health, Social & Culture. Euromena Consulting — Awards for Sub-Saharan Africa Startups

Euromena Consulting invites applications for the 3rd Euromena Awards – Sub-Saharan Africa Edition. The awards are intended for companies or innovative projects with social, economic, environmental and/or societal impact. To be eligible, the startup must be based in a sub-saharan country. The three winners will receive 6 months of customized business consulting (coaching, mentorship, and advisory services), plus financial rewards – 1st place €5 thousand; 2nd place €3 thousand; 3rd place €2 thousand. India Department of Science and Technology — EU-India Clean Energy and Climate Partnership

The India Department of Science and Technology (DST) seeks applications for joint research projects with partner from the EU related to renewable energy and its integration in the energy system. Applicants can request a contribution between €5 to €6 million. Projects may include prototyping, testing, demonstrating, piloting, large-scale product validation and market replication. Proposed projects must include a minimum of three participants (for-profit, nonprofit, universities) on either side. Proposals have to be submitted by 31 January 2020. The call

The International Trade Centre (ITC) invites applications from women entrepreneurs and women-owned businesses for the SheTrades Invest program. Selected companies will gain access to learning opportunities, technical assistance, and a network of investors. The program is open to businesses from across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America active in the following sectors: agriculture; energy; environment; tourism; water; and many others. Government of Japan — Japan Africa Scholarship Program

The Japan Africa Scholarship (JADS) Program, funded by the Government of Japan, provides a two-year scholarship to African students for post-graduate studies in Japan. JADS core areas of study focus include energy, agriculture, and environmental sustainability, among others. The scholarship program provides tuition, a monthly living stipend, round-trip airfare, health insurance, and travel allowance. The program is open to students who have gained admission to an approved Masters degree course at a Japanese partner university. Candidates should be 35 years old or younger.
