UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council — Research Capability Building

BBSRC accepts applications for strategic training awards of up to 12 months in duration to support research capability addressing current global challenges. The purpose of this call is to build a portfolio of sustainable training resources in research priority areas, focusing on sustainable development in developing countries. Focus areas include sustainable energy; clean air, water and sanitation; resilience to long-term environmental change; sustainable marine resources and agriculture, among others. A total of up to £500 thousand is available to support the training activities. GCRF-STARS applications should be co-created and delivered through training partnerships between the UK partner and organisations from developing countries. São Paulo Research Foundation — International Research Collaboration 3/2019

The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) offers seed funding to support the exchange of researchers under the program “São Paulo Researchers in International Collaboration” (SPRINT). The 3/2019 call seeks collaborations with selected partner research organizations in Austria, UK, Canada, Colombia, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, and United States. The fields of joint research interest include environment, energy, and others — varying with each partnership. FAPESP also considers proposals from institutions that do not currently have an agreement with FAPESP if these institutions can present matching funds. The deadline for proposals is 28 October 2019. Scottish Government — International Development Small Grants 2020

The Scottish Government’s International Development Small Grants Programme provides project funding in support of the government’s International Development Policy. Applications for grants are invited from incorporated not-for-profit organisations which have a presence in Scotland and an annual turnover of less than £250 thousand. Project grants should focus on any of Malawi, Rwanda, or Zambia in themes of food security; renewable energy; climate change; water; and others. Grants for capacity building and feasibility studies will be accepted in relation to any country designated as medium/low on the UN’s Human Development Index — but with priority for Malawi, Rwanda, and Zambia. Awards are a maximum of £15 thousand for one-year feasibility studies and capacity building initiatives. The application deadline is 08 November 2019. About the small grants

Renewable Energy Solutions for Africa Foundation — Training Course: Deployment of Renewable Energy Solutions

Renewable Energy Solutions for Africa Foundation, in partnership with Enel Foundation, invites applications for the two weeks advanced training course “Deployment of renewable energy solutions: challenges and opportunities” (Italy, November 2019). The course targets professionals serving in public institutions, energy companies, energy centers, universities and research agencies in the Africa Region. 40 selected participants will be awarded the Enel Foundation Scholarship which covers tuition fee, travel and accommodation costs. European Commission — Sustainable Energy Policy in the Marshall Islands

The objective of this call for proposals is to support the implementation of a sustainable energy policy. Proposals should support atoll local governments and community groups to improve their energy management, which includes investment plans for renewable energy. Grants under this call range from €95 thousand to €220 thousand. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. GreenHouse Capital — GreenHouse Lab Accelerator for Female Focused Tech Companies

GreenHouse Lab is a three-month accelerator focused on early-stage technology start-ups across Africa. Participants receive entrepreneurship training, US$100 thousand and access to a global network of mentors and investors. Start-ups must be female-led or female focused. United Nations Development Programme — Green and Sustainable Cities in Moldova

The UNDP-GEF Project “Moldova Sustainable Green Cities” launches a call for proposals within the Fast Track Challenge Program. The program provides financial support of up to US$8 thousand to innovative projects contributing to low carbon green city development. The thematic areas covered by this program include waste management, and energy efficiency, among others. Applicants must have a for-profit entity registered in the Republic of Moldova. Australian Government — Direct Assistance Program 2019-2020

The Direct Assistance Program (PAD) is a small development program which works directly with communities in developing countries. The current call for proposals is open to local community organizations in Cape Verde, Sao Tome and Principe, and Guinea-Bissau. Projects can request funding of up to €15 thousand. U.S. Department of State — Enhancing Development and Growth through Energy

The U.S. Department of State announces an opportunity for organizations to submit applications to the Asia Enhancing Development and Growth through Energy (EDGE) initiative. The aim of the program is to grow sustainable and secure energy markets throughout the Indo-Pacific. Eligibility is limited to U.S. and foreign non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and public international organizations. Katapult Ocean — Startup Investment for Tech Innovations

Katapult Ocean invests in tech companies with positive impact on the ocean. The accelerator program provides investments and mentorship for ocean technology startups from all around the world. The sectors covered by the program include ocean health, fisheries, and energy, among others. Startups will receive a US$150 thousand investment in their company in exchange for 8% equity.
