Newton Fund — Newton Prize for Excellence in Research and Innovation
The Newton Prize recognizes the best research or innovation projects that promote economic development and social welfare. In 2020, the Prize celebrates the impacts made as a result of international collaborations in Newton partner countries (Egypt, Kenya, Jordan, Turkey, and South Africa). One Newton Prize of up to £200 thousand will be awarded to each of the 5 eligible partner countries. The award is open to applicants who currently hold a Newton award. U.S. Department of State — Air Quality Management in Central Asia
The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, U.S. State Department, announces the “Building Air Quality Management Capacity in Central Asia” program. The project targets government entities with the intend to strengthen regulatory and monitoring capacity of government actors and expand awareness of air quality issues in Central Asian countries. The program intends to provide US$296,296 in funding to be used for the production of educational materials, expert workshops, and the development of a monitoring and evaluation plan to be used by key agencies. Countries eligible for funding under this award include: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The Government of Uzbekistan and the Government of India invite proposals for joint research projects in the following scientific areas (relevant to TVG): agriculture and food science technology; energy, water, climate and natural resources; among others. U.S. Department of Agriculture — Borlaug Fellowships in Agricultural Science and Technology
The Borlaug Fellowship Program supports short-term research projects to improve agricultural productivity, economic development, and food security in over developing countries. The program offers training and collaborative opportunities for agricultural research, international agricultural economics, leadership, and policy. The program lists the eligible countries, and the research priorities for each of them. Fellows work one-on-one with a U.S. mentor who will coordinate the training program. After completion of the 6 months fellowship, the mentor will visit the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration. USDA will select U.S. host institutions and mentors for each fellow. Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas Network — MPA Co-Management Approaches
MedPAN launches a new call for small projects to support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean. This call targets co-management approaches for Marine Protected Areas. The call is only open to Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Turkey, and Albania. MedPAN’s contribution will be €20 thousand per project (matching contributions of 25 % are required). UNESCO Institute for Water Education — Masters Fellowships
Located in the Netherlands, UNESCO-IHE offers six scholarships for the Water Cooperation and Diplomacy master’s program. The objective of the program is to train future water managers and other professionals to address competition over water. Eligibility extends to existing and future water professionals from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The scholarship will cover educational fees, however, successful applicants will be required to fund up to approximately US$5 thousand for living costs and flights. ENEA Consulting — Support for Energy Initiatives in Africa and Asia
ENEA Access offers 50 to 60 days of professional consulting services on a pro-bono basis. The Energy Access Booster is open to entrepreneurs based in Sub-Saharan Africa or Asia. Activities that can be considered for ENEA’s support include feasibility studies, market and business models, implementation of pilot projects, and others. Selected entrepreneurs receive a financial contribution of up to US$ 50 thousand. Projects must clearly contribute to the reduction of poverty and/or climate change as a result of improved access to energy. The Center for Mediterranean Integration and partners invite applications for the 4th Mediterranean Water Heroes Contest. Winners will participate in the CMI 2020 World Water Day workshop in Murcia, Spain (March 2020) with covered travel and accommodation. World Water Day 2020 will focus on “Water and Climate Change.” Young researchers, entrepreneurs and activists (18-35 years) working on water challenges in the Mediterranean from Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Montenegro, Palestinian Territories, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey are eligible to apply.
