BiodivERsA announces its call on theme “Biodiversity and Climate Change.” The call aims at supporting transnational research projects jointly addressing issues at the nexus of biodiversity and animal, human and/ or plant health (including biological diversity; effects of global change factors; and biodiversity benefits). The participating countries in this call are Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, and Turkey. U.S. Agency for International Development — Initiative for Hygiene, Sanitation and Nutrition in Afghanistan
Initiative for Hygiene, Sanitation and Nutrition Innovation Fund grants awards for innovative approaches aimed at increasing access to and utilization of nutrition, hygiene and sanitation services in Afghanistan. Seed Grants (up to $60 thousand) are made to concept activities that are innovative and not previously implemented in nutrition or WASH. Advance Grants (up to $250 thousand) support approaches, technologies, services, products and processes that have already demonstrated feasibility and are ready to transition to the scale-up stage. Scale Up Grants are to support the scale-up stage of currently employed community-based programs. Eligibility extends to national and international nonprofit organizations, for-profit organizations, and institutions working in nutrition or WASH. European Commission — SEA-Europe Joint Funding Scheme for Research and Innovation
The objective of the Joint Funding Scheme (JFS) is to bring together Southeast Asian and European researchers so that they can collaborate on topics of mutual interest, one of which is Integrated Water Resource Management. Joint projects must comprise of at least 3 partners from 3 different countries. Countries contributing to this call are: Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Czech Republic, Germany, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Latvia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam. Funding will be provided for the duration of a maximum of three years (36 months). Proposals may be submitted by public research and technology development entities, academic institutions, non-university research establishments, and companies.The deadline is 18 October 2019. Save Our Species — Threatened Species Conservation in Central Asia
Save Our Species (SOS) makes grants for conservation actions on threatened species and their habitats in Central Asia. This Call is accepting proposals targeting the conservation of the Goitered Gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa) and the Snow Leopard (Panthera uncia) and their habitats in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Grants will range from CHF 25 thousand to CHF 200 thousand with a maximum project duration of 18 months. SOS requires matching resources in relation to grant size. Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas Network — Grants for Small Projects 2020-2021
MedPAN launches a new call for small projects to support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean. The grants will reinforce the management of MPAs from the perspective of integrated coastal zone management and sustainable financing. They will also promote habitat mapping and the protection of marine turtles. MedPAN’s contribution will be €20 thousand per project (matching contributions of 25 % are required). The eligible countries are Albania, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Montenegro, Tunisia, and Turkey. Canadian International Development Research Center — Women’s Participation in Science
The IDRC aims to increase the participation of women and other underrepresented groups in STEM fields by eliminating or reducing systemic barriers. The available budget per grant is between CA$200 thousand and CA$500 thousand. This call is open to research institutions, consortia, or non-governmental organizations with a strong presence in eligible low and middle-income countries. SEARCA and FSC — Summer School in Agriculture and Food Systems
The Summer School “Transformative Changes in Agriculture and Food Systems”, jointly organized by the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Food Security Center (FSC) of the University of Hohenheim in Germany, will take place in Laguna, Philippines (9-27 September 2019). The FSC will offer up to 16 scholarships for PhD students from Africa, Asia, and Latin America to participate in the course. The Spindle — NOW-Us! Award for Africa and Asia
The NOW-Us! (NOthing about us, Without Us) Award honors inspiring inclusive initiatives from Africa and Asia that trigger empowerment of otherwise excluded groups. This includes social enterprises led by women, indigenous groups and ethnic minorities with initiatives that improve access to productive resources (land and water), among others. The three winners (1, 2 and 3) get a grant of respectively €25 thousand, €15 thousand and €10 thousand along with coaching and networking opportunities.
