European Commission — Capacity to Address Extraordinary Disasters

The EC’s Directorate for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection calls for projects which address temporary shortcomings of response capacities in extraordinary disasters. The objective is to establish “buffer capacities” to add stand-by availability of rapid response capacities. Included are responses to disasters caused by flooding and forest fires. In addition to EU member states, eligibility to participate extends to Iceland, Macedonia, Montenegro, Norway, Serbia, and Turkey. The deadline for submitting proposals is 06 February 2017. Link

Newton Fund — Agri-Food Innovation in Turkey

The Newton Fund promotes partnerships in science and innovation to promote the economic development and social welfare of 16 partner countries, including Turkey. The current call for proposals invites UK companies in partnership with Turkish companies to address three challenges: (i) using waste products and residues from Turkey’s agri-food industry to reduce environmental impact and add value; (ii) improving the productivity of small and medium-scale farmers in Turkey; and (iii) improving animal and plant breeding in Turkey. The amount of available co-funding varies with business size. The deadline for registration is 16 November 2016. Link

European Commission — Capacıty Building in the Fıeld of Clımate Change in Turkey

The EC and the Government of Turkey will co-fund a program to increase public understanding and enhance capacity of Turkish organizations on actions to mitigation and adapt to climate change. One lot of grants is for NGOs in partnerships with local governments and municipalities (maximum grant is €50 thousand, varying with cost shares), while the other lot is for metropolitan municipalities (maximum grant is €200 thousand, varying with cost shares). University of California at Davis — Horticulture Innovation Lab

With funding provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Horticulture Innovation Lab makes research grants in support of agricultural development. The Lab is soliciting proposals on improving post-harvest handling, storage, and marketing of tomatoes for Burkina Faso (deadline: 12 September 2016). It also calls for research proposals on dried apricots in Tajikistan (deadline: 12 September 2016). Additionally, the Lab invites concept notes for research on integrated animal-horticulture systems, particularly for Cambodia, Nepal, and Rwanda (deadline: 19 September 2016). Proposals led by U.S. university researchers will be given priority for funding.  However, some programs are open to additional participation.  Link

International Tree Foundation — Sustainable Community Forestry Programme

The International Tree Foundation makes grants through its Sustainable Community Forestry Programme to conserve and restore local forest resources and associated biodiversity; improve local livelihoods; and increase resilience to climate change. ITF welcomes applications for community tree projects in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.  The applying organization must be a registered NGO in the country where the project will take place. Grants are up to £3,000 for one year, with the possibility of applying for a second year. The deadline for applications is 17 October 2016.  Link

Safari Club International Foundation (SCI) — Grants for Wildlife Conservation and Research 2017-2018

SCI makes grants for wildlife conservation and research in Africa, Asia, and North America. The Foundation defines thematic interests for each of these regions. Grants are up to US$50 thousand per year. The application deadline is 31 October 2016.  Link

British Council — Research Workshops

The British Council announces workshops that convene UK researchers with partners in other countries. Among the workshops that have deadlines beyond the date of this posting are: Kazakhstan, low-carbon energy (deadline 15 July 2016); India, water purification (deadline 15 July 2016); Brazil, water/sanitation/energy (deadline 15 July 2016); Brazil, renewable energy (deadline 22 July 2016); Kazakhstan, mineral resources (deadline 22 July 2016); Brazil, legal aspects of agricultural technology (deadline 29 July 2016); and Kazakhstan, agricultural innovation (deadline 11 September 2016). Finland Ministry for Foreign Affairs — University Collaboration, Finland with Developing Countries

Finland funds the Higher Education Institutions Institutional Cooperation Instrument to support collaboration between higher education institutions in Finland and partner universities in developing countries. All subject areas are relevant. Grants will range from £300 thousand to £700 thousand, up to 80% of total project costs, for up to three years. The partner countries of highest priority are Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Somalia, Tanzania, and Zambia. However, the program is open to partners in additional low and middle-income countries (details are provided in the announcement). The deadline for submitting proposals is 04 October 2016. Link

European Maritime and Fisheries Fund — International Cooperation for Blue Economy

The EC’s Maritime and Fisheries Fund will support trans-national regional collaboration to improve the blue economy in sea basins important to Europe, i.e., the Atlantic, Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Mediterranean, and North Sea. Each consortium should focus on a specific blue-growth technology or value chain. Examples include biotechnology, aquaculture, coastal and marine tourism, tidal or offshore wind energy, and others. Each consortia will develop a strategic investment plan as well as bankable demonstration projects. Applicants established in certain non-EU countries (defined in the announcement) are eligible to participate in Blue Economy if they are necessary to achieve the objectives of the action. U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) — Clean Water in Armenia

USAID-Yerevan will fund the project Participatory Utilization and Resource Efficiency of Water (PURE-Water) to improve the quality and use efficiency of water resources in the Ararat Valley. Activities will focus on the participation of Armenian civil society in policy development and small-scale pilot projects for integrated water management. Eligibility for grants extends to local organizations registered in Armenia. Funding Opportunity RFA-111-16-000004. The application deadline is 13 July 2016. Link
