The United Nations University offers postdoctoral fellowships to young scholars and policymakers, especially from the developing world. One fellowships program is with the UNU’s Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS); the other is with the UNU’s Center for Policy Research (UNU-CPR). The research themes include ecosystem services; water and urban development; governance for sustainable development; low-carbon technology; and others. Conservation Strategy Fund — Training Course on Economic Tools for Conservation 2018
The Conservation Strategy Fund (CSF) invites applications for its annual international training course, “Economic Tools for Conservation”, to be held at the University of California Berkeley in July 2018. The course is aimed at managers of conservation programs and protected areas; directors of NGOs; and representatives of government agencies. Applicants from disciplines such as biology, forestry, law, anthropology, and economics are encouraged to apply. Accepted applicants are responsible for seeking their own funding. Colorado State University — Training in Protected Areas Management 2018
Colorado State University, in collaboration with partner organizations in the USA, announces its annual one-month course in protected areas management to be held July-August 2018 in the Western USA. Participants are invited from Spanish and Portuguese-speaking countries, with emphasis on participants from Latin America. The course will be given in Spanish. SEED Foundation — Agricultural Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa 2018
The SEED Foundation supports French nonprofit organizations in partnership with nonprofit organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa for innovative solutions that address food security. Projects can address agricultural practices, farming knowledge and capacity, local agricultural products, etc. Grants range from €7 thousand to €15 thousand, up to 70% of project costs. The MIT Climate CoLab organizes contests to solicit the world’s best ideas to prevent and adapt to climate change. The current contest invites projects that focus on the question “How can climate risk insurance be linked with other forms of social protection to help vulnerable communities absorb climate impacts?” The UN Climate Resilience Initiative A2R and InsuResilience will provide seed funding for the implementation of the winning proposal (€40 thousand) and mentoring, training and technical assistance (€12 thousand euros). University of Bergen — PhD Course on Food Security
The Bergen Summer Research School offers parallel short courses for PhD students and young researchers on themes of urgent societal problems focusing on the transition to sustainability. One of the six courses will concentrate on the question “Can more food be obtained from the ocean in a sustainable way?”. Another course will deal with food and nutrition insecurity. Stipends to participate in the course are available for qualified individuals who are currently enrolled for studies and carrying out research in a list of eligible developing countries. The Swissuniversities Development and Cooperation Network (SUDAC) calls for various types of Swiss higher education institutions to partner with each other and with partners in the Global South to develop Consortia for Education and Research (COFER). COFER will aim for stronger integration of research, education, and implementation through new collaborative networks oriented towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Each COFER must address at least two SDGs; provide at least 50% matching funds; and provide funding for partners in the Global South. EarthCorps — International Program 2018
EarthCorps invites applications from emerging environmental leaders around the world to participate in an environmental service program in the USA. Participants from the USA and other countries take part in field projects such as tree planting, trail construction, stream restoration, and removal of invasive plants. The international Program is a 6-month learning experience for non-U.S. citizens, which takes place in Seattle, Washington, USA. Applicants should be 18-28 years of age, with a university degree in an environmental field (or equivalent work experience), and speak conversational English. International participants receive a living stipend, health insurance, and accommodations with host families. However, each participant is responsible for her/his travel to Seattle, Washington.
