Nordic Environment Finance Corporation — Baltic Sea Action Plan Fund

The Nordic Environment Finance Corporation (NEFCO) announces the applications for Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP) Fund. The Baltic Sea Action Plan Fund supports projects that will benefit the ecological well being of the Baltic Sea. The fund finances new initiatives and support activities across the Baltic Sea region including Estonia, Finland, Russia, Sweden, and Belarus. Selected proposals may receive grant financing from €30 thousand to €200 thousand, subject to certain co-financing requirements. Deadline for submitting the proposals is 06 February 2023. BSAP Fund

European Commission — Adaptation to Climate Change

The “Boosting Resilience and Adaptation to Climate Change (BREACH)” program has the objective to increase systemic resilience to climate change and food crises in Somalia. The European Commission calls for proposals that improve prevention of and preparedness for food crises in communities in vulnerable situations, achieve durable solutions to displacement, and combat the climate crisis through reforestation and land restoration. Letten Foundation — Prize for Young Researchers

The Letten Prize is an international prize for young researchers (under the age of 45) that conduct research aimed at addressing global challenges within the fields of health, development, environment and equality in all aspects of human life. The winner is awarded 2,5 million NOK (ca. US$235 thousand) to be used for research activities. The prize is open to researchers from all around the world. Endangered Landscapes Programme — Restoring Endangered Landscapes

The Endangered Landscapes Programme (ELP) invites expressions of interest from organizations and partnerships for the Landscape Restoration Grant. The program supports landscapes and seascapes restoration in areas that are ecologically degraded, fragmented, disconnected, missing key species and vulnerable to climate change. The maximum grant amount projects can apply for is €100 thousand. The program welcomes applications for smaller amounts. Each team must identify a Lead Partner who will take responsibility for the project. Lead partners must be not-for-profit organizations. The deadline for expressions of interest is 03 February 2023. Yale University — Yale Young African Scholars 2023

Yale Young African Scholars (YYAS) offers an academic summer program for secondary school students from across Africa. The program offers online and in-person programs in four interdisciplinary sessions on Innovations in Science & Technology and Solving Global Challenges. Admitted participants will have access to pre-recorded videos before the start of the program and attend live sessions. There is no tuition cost to participate in the program. Leading House Africa — Seasonal Schools for African PhD Students

Leading House Africa seeks to promote research cooperation between Swiss and African PhD students of higher education institutions in seasonal schools. Leading House seeks Seasonal Schools in Switzerland to sponsor African participants for a PhD graduate program. Eligible applicants are organizers of seasonal schools (e.g. summer schools) in or outside of Switzerland affiliation to a Swiss Institution of Higher Education. Olympus — Global Life Science Light Microscopy Award

The Olympus Microscopy Award recognizes the best in life science imaging worldwide. Olympus invites photographers and researchers worldwide to submit up to three microscopy photographs. Participants can win professional microscopy and photography equipment. One global winner and one regional winner from three world regions (Asia, Europe, Americas) will be selected. Garden Club of America — Awards in Tropical Botany and Horticulture

The Garden Club of America (GCA) offers several grants, prizes, and fellowships for students enrolled at universities in the USA, including some awards that have a tropical focus. The GCA Awards in Tropical Botany are open to PhD candidates (application deadline is 15 January). The Anne Chatham Fellowship in Medicinal Botany is open to PhD students and recent PhD graduates (deadline is 31 January). The Lou McCandless Marks Scholarship in Tropical Horticulture is restricted to U.S. citizens who are graduate students or advanced undergraduate students (deadline is 01 February). European Commission — Floating Wind Energy Deployment

The European Commission (EC) offers grants for innovation on floating wind energy deployment optimized for deep waters and different sea basins (Mediterranean Sea, Black Sea, Baltic Sea, North-east Atlantic Ocean). The proposal is expected to deploy in one of the sea basins in Europe. Applicants must be established in a Member State of the European Union, countries associated with Horizon Europe or low- and middle-income countries. The application deadline is 23 February 2023. Link
