Cornell University — Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces

Cornell University invites applications from early-career African researchers to participate in the Structural Transformation of African Agriculture and Rural Spaces (STAARS) fellowship program. STAARS Fellows will be paired with mentors at Cornell University and prepare a paper on a topic of mutual interest relating to structural transformation in Africa south of the Sahara. The selected applicants will receive funds to cover travel and participation in a three-week mentorship program at Cornell University. The deadline to submit a research proposal is 19 January 2024. Earth Journalism Network — Infrastructure Reporting in Lower Mekong

The Journalist Fellowship for Infrastructure Reporting in Lower Mekong equips mid-career journalists with training, mentoring, and story grants to report on infrastructural development and its impacts on the environment and human rights. EJN will select 15 journalists who will take part in a series of online training sessions and a two-day in-person workshop in March 2024. EJN will cover the cost of travel, accommodation, and meals of selected participants. Participants who successfully complete the training will be eligible to apply to receive story grants (US$2000 each). Acumen Fund — East Africa Fellows Program

The Acumen East Africa Fellows Program is a 6-month program comprising 5 seminars that gives individuals from East Africa the training they need to accelerate their social impact and leadership potential. Eligible countries are Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan & Ethiopia. Past fellows have included several in smallholder agriculture, renewable energy, waste management, fair trade, and other areas. Preference is for applicants working in the subject areas of the Foundation such as climate and energy, resource governance, and ecology and green development (among others). The special focus regions for international students are Central and Eastern Europe; EU neighborhood countries and the CIS; the Middle East and North Africa; transition and newly industrialized countries; and conflict regions worldwide. The Fund provides financial aid (from ¥80 thousand to ¥100 thousand per month) to students, trainees, and researchers for pursuing academic degrees or research at educational or research institutes and business enterprises. Training or research on technologies for developing countries (especially civil engineering, electricity, machinery, agriculture, environment, energy, development economy) at companies or organizations in Japan is supported.
