The European Commission seeks project proposals (two-stage call) that take a systemic approach to tackle the scientific and socio-economic challenges from Antarctica to the Arctic. Activities shall (A) Reinforce international cooperation research between Europe and tropical and South Atlantic countries; (B) Assess the status of Atlantic marine ecosystems; or (C) Explore new value chains for aquaculture production. Proposals may requests a contribution in the range of €4 and €9 million (depending on the sub-topic to be addressed). International cooperations and legal entities established in EU Member States, Overseas Countries and Territories and Horizon 2020 associated countries (as detailed in the call) are eligible to apply under this call. U.S. Department of State — Youth Leadership Program with Burma
The Office of Citizen Exchanges announces an open competition to conduct a four-week U.S.-based exchange program for teenagers and adult educators. The activities for each program will focus on civic education, community engagement and prepare participants to conduct projects at home that serve a community need. Applicants should plan to provide U.S.-based programming for 17-18 youth and 2-3 adult participants from Burma. Applicants may request up to US$190 thousand in project funding. The European Commission aims to support environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient aquaculture in Uganda. The project purpose is to improve food and nutrition security, increase income and improve livelihoods, promote an environmentally-sustainable development, focussing on smallholders and smallholders’ associations. Grants requested under this call for proposals must fall between €300 thousand and €700 thousand (depending on the focus of the proposed project). The Innovation Grant Facility (IGF) provides funding to agro-based small & medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in seven Pacific Island States: Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. Projects should focus on “Leveraging the Development of Local Food Crops and Fisheries Value Chains for Improved Nutrition and Sustainable Food Systems in the Pacific Islands” and be executed by SMEs that aim to grow their business and contribute, directly or indirectly, to the sustainable development of the agriculture and fishery sectors. The estimated contribution per project is between €500 thousand and €1 million. Conservation International (CI) offers the Indigenous Leaders Conservation Fellowship to leaders from indigenous and traditional peoples. For the 2019-2020 fellowship year, the Indigenous Leaders Conservation Fellowship will support two distinct fellowship tracks: the Indigenous Women’s Fellowship and the Emerging Leaders Fellowship. The European Commission, under Horizon 2020, launches a call for proposals to fight nutritional imbalances in Africa. Proposals should assess and deliver better nutrition performance of African farming systems, strengthening the agro-biodiversity (including aquaculture systems) and food diversity.
