Village Capital — Support for Social Entrepreneurs in Africa

Village Capital and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) Impact Programme seek applications for the VilCap Communities Africa program. The program is open to social entrepreneurs across sub-Saharan Africa who need tools, resources and connections to raise funds. To be eligible to apply, the applicant must address countrywide or regional problems, such as agriculture, environmental sustainability and others affecting those in poverty. European Commission — Social Entrepreneurship in Jordan

The European Commission calls for projects that contribute to poverty reduction and social inclusion of people confined in the informal economy and disadvantaged/marginalised groups. The design of the proposed actions should aim at generating jobs and developing competitive and social enterprises in Jordan. (Note: This may include one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory). Under this call, grants of up to 2.2 million can be requested. Asian Women In Business – Scholarship for Female Entrepreneurs

The Asian Women In Business Scholarship (AWIB) encourages and promotes exceptional Asian female students and social entrepreneurs who have demonstrated leadership, community service and/or entrepreneurship. (Note: This may include one or more categories of the Terra Viva Grants directory.) Selected entrepreneurs will receive US$ 2,500. Eligibility extends to students of Asian or Pacific Islander ancestry who are enrolled full-time in an accredited 4-year undergraduate institution in the US and have permanent residency. World Bank — Competition for Women Entrepreneurs

The World Bank Group, in partnership with Wharton School’s Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research, UN Development Programme (UNDP) and UN Women, seeks applications for its “SDGs & Her Competition for Women Entrepreneurs”. SDGs&Her is an online competition for women entrepreneurs from all around the world to showcase how they are supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through their business operations. The competition is open to women-owned and/or women-lead microenterprises. The top winners will be recognized at an event on the margins of the 2018 UN General Assembly Week in New York City (September 2018). The deadline for applications is 30 June 2018. Details

Succow Foundation — CADI Fellowship 2018

The Michael Succow Foundation supports early-career scientists from Central Asia though the Central Asian Desert Initiative (CADI) Fellowship Programme. The project must have a clear relevance for the country of origin (China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan) and should focus on the increase of sustainability or improvement of livelihoods in the region. Google.org – Google Impact Challenge Kenya

The Google Impact Challenge Kenya supports non-profit organizations and social enterprises with game-changing ideas to create economic opportunity in their communities. Finalists get access to Google.org funding, mentorship and resources. Four winners will receive a US$250 thousand grant each and training from Google. Eligible nonprofits and social enterprises are invited to apply by 04 July 2018. Learn more

Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Voice Opportunity Grants

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides opportunity grants to effectively empower and give voice to marginalized and discriminated people in low- and lower-middle income countries of Africa and Asia. The thematic areas include one for improved governance and access to productive resources (e.g., land and water) and employment. The priority countries are Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Philippines, Tanzania, and Uganda. Voice hopes to stimulate learning about the most successful methods of building community empowerment. Applications are invited from legally registered nonprofit civil society organizations and community groups. The applicant (or a consortium member) must be based in Africa or Asia, and operate in one or more of the focus countries. Grants range from €5 thousand to €200 thousand for up to 6-12 months. Eastern Africa Farmers Federation — Support for Young Farmers in Africa

The Eastern Africa Farmers Federation in partnership with IFAD calls for innovative ideas from rural youth groups in agriculture and agribusiness related enterprises. Young farmers will receive technical support, mentorship, access to potential funders/investors and other partnership opportunities. Eligibility extends to groups or individual farmers (35 years or less) from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi and Rwanda. Applications have to be received by 06 June 2018. Find information on how to apply

Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation — Swiss-African Research Cooperation

The LH Basel calls for applications for visiting fellowships from advanced PHD students and early postdoctoral researchers from sub-Saharan Africa or Switzerland. Proposals from priority countries Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya and Uganda are particularly encouraged. Proposals addressing any of the SDGs in the context of Swiss–sub-Saharan African cooperation, especially in the field of climate change, are welcome. Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies — Small Research Grants

The SMAIAS is an Independent Research Organisation which seeks to influence land and natural resources policies in Africa through multi-disciplinary science research, policy dialogues, and training. The Small Research Grants program is intended to support research projects with budgets of US$2,500 for dissertation writing. Eligibility extends to emerging young African scholars from agriculture and other related professional fields whose research is aimed at helping to inform policies and practices that improve the lives of marginalised groups who depend on agriculture as a source of their livelihoods.
