African-German Network of Excellence in Science — Mobility Grant for Junior Researchers

AGNES seeks applications for its mobility grant scheme for junior researchers to strengthen the scientific capacity and networking in Africa through active co-operation. Selected researchers from sub-Saharan African countries will spend research stays between 1 and 2 months at a university/research institute in another sub-Saharan African country, where they will be collaborating with an experienced researcher. The grants covers travel and living costs, as well as a research allowance to the host institute on request to cover some of the research expenses. The application deadline is 06 April 2018. More

U.S. Agency for International Development — Women in Science Mentoring Program

The PEER Women in Science Mentoring Program aims to help retain women in science and teach early career scientists to write successful international research awards. The USAID PEER Program invites applications from African Mentor-Mentee Cohorts. Cohorts should be made up of one woman senior faculty mentor and 2-4 women mentees (postdocs and/or junior faculty). Mentors will receive a US$2 thousand honorarium. Mentees will receive training and the opportunity to compete for small seed grants (US$10 thousand) following their participation in the year-long mentoring program. European Union — Training in Crop Improvement for Food Security in Africa

The EU, through its Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme, provides funding to support training of graduate students at African universities. A total of 24 Masters and 12 Doctorates will be trained in the thematic areas of Plant breeding, Biotechnology, Seed science, Agronomy, and Pesticides and plant protection. The scholarship includes a subsistence allowance of €900 per month for PhD candidates and €600 for MSc candidates. Women and candidates with disabilities are particularly encouraged to apply. Australian APEC Study Centre — Women in Research 2018

The Australia – APEC Women in Research Fellowship supports female researchers from developing APEC economies to work in collaboration with partners at Australian institutions. Past fellows include several in subjects such as water resources, climate change, marine microbiology, and others related to environment. The program is open to female citizens and permanent residents in the following countries: Chile, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam. ETH Zurich — Exchange of Young Researchers

ETH Zurich, in Switzerland, supports the exchange of young researchers between Switzerland and China. Swiss senior researchers from universities or research institutes and from all scientific disciplines can apply to host young Chinese scholars or apply to send one of their PhD students to China to conduct research. International Youth Foundation — Global Fellowship for Social Entrepreneurs

The Laureate Global Fellowship, sponsored by Laureate International Universities, recognizes 20 young leaders from around the world who have pioneered solutions to urgent social and environmental challenges in their communities and beyond. Laureate Global Fellows begin their fellowship experience at a week-long training retreat and gain access to opportunities for needs-based personal and organizational development. Eurasia Foundation — Youth TV Bridge

The US-Russia Youth TV Bridge is an international platform for increasing cooperation between US and Russian youth through collaborative video production. Students interested in broadcast journalism are encouraged to submit video materials on the topic “Using technology to improve society” (which may include one or more sustainable topics relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory). The best, most interesting, and most topical submissions will be shown in full during YTVB episodes. Eligibility extends to US and Russian teams consisting of 9th- and 12th- graders that are affiliated with a school or private television studio. Deadline for submissions is 31 March 2018. BMCE Bank of Africa — African Entrepreneurship Award 2018

The African Entrepreneurship Award is a business competition inviting young African entrepreneurs to submit their entrepreneurial ideas in two categories, one of which is “Innovation” for projects and business ideas that aim to solve pressing issues in Africa. This refers to business proposals that innovate to create jobs and improve lives addressing problems in areas such as food security, water access, sustainable energy, deforestation,and others. Submissions are invited from for-profit businesses managed by Africans who are at least 18 years old. The competition winners will share US$1 million. The closing date is 30 April 2018. Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition — Research on Sustainable Food 2018

The Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition sponsors BCFN YES! (Young Earth Solutions) as an international competition for young researchers on the theme of sustainable food systems. The program offers one-year research grants up to €20 thousand to PhD and postdoc researchers worldwide from any background and nationality. The maximum age is 35. Subject areas include climate change, resilient agriculture, sustainable water management, ecosystem services, food policy, and many others. The competition encourages the participation of teams from different disciplines and countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches. Bestseller Foundation — Enterprises in Agriculture and Environment

The Bestseller Foundation provides financial support for sustainable agriculture, sustainable jobs and entrepreneurship, and environment and nature conservation in China, Africa and India. The foundation invests mainly with commercial actors in for-profit projects by means of loans and equity. Nonprofit organizations and projects may sometimes be eligible if they have clear and commercially viable objectives. In some cases, the Foundation may consider grants or donations.
