The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), and partners, offer a shipboard fellowship opportunity onboard the research vessel R/V Marion Dufresne during 2022 (29 June – 22 July). Ten early-career scientists and postgraduate students involved in oceanographic work at institutions in the Western Indian Ocean will be selected to participate in the Floating University project. The program is primarily open to postgraduate students (PhD or MSc) involved in oceanographic work, marine sciences, and maritime studies at institutions in Comoros, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar, Mozambique, South Africa, Seychelles Somali, and Tanzania. The United Nations Development Programme in Africa (UNDP Africa) seeks youth from the Sahel Region willing to pitch their innovative solutions to a panel of judges at the YouthConnekt Sahel Forum. UNDP Africa is interested in innovative ideas from a broad range of topics, including agroforestry and climate change mitigation/adaptation, driving the region’s transformation. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers journalists from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda reporting grants of up to US$2 thousand to produce investigative stories about illegal wildlife trade and environmental crime in East Africa. Grants are open to professional journalists and media organizations and can be used to produce stories in any of the following mediums: print, television, radio or online. Logan Nonfiction Program — Workshop for Environmental Filmmakers and Journalists
The Logan Nonfiction Program invites applications from writers, documentary filmmakers, photographers, and multimedia producers from all around the world to participate in a 10-week workshop at the Carey Institute for Global Good. The fellowship combines virtual and in-person programming in two classes per year of 10-12 fellows per class. Applications are accepted from professional journalists and filmmakers working on topics representing socially relevant political, health, environmental, human rights, and justice topics. The Young One World Lead2030 Challenge for SDG 15 seeks ideas and innovations aimed at restoring ecosystem services and biodiversity by combating deforestation, countering desertification, and ensuring the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems. The challenge welcomes solutions from young innovators (18-30 years old). The winner will receive a US$50 thousand project startup grant and 12-months of mentorship from Credit Suisse. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) seeks applications for a cooperative agreement from qualified organizations to implement Somalia’s Market Based Resilience for Marginalized Populations (MB-RMP) Activity.
