Aqua for All and World Waternet — Award for Innovative Sanitation and Health Water Treatment

Aqua for All, World Waternet and Accenture seek entrepreneurs and innovators with breakthrough ideas and technologies for an integrated, collection, transport and treatment system of wastewater and human waste in urban settings. The 2021 theme for the challenge is ‘Sanitation and Health’. Winners have the chance to win up to €100 thousand for implementation of their solution. International Fund for Agricultural Development — Climate Best Practices

International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) provides a three-year grant to implement the project “Strengthening Borrowers’ Capacity on Environmental, Social and Climate Best Practices” (SUSTAIN) for a total IFAD grant of US$2 million. The applicant should propose some level of cash and in-kind co-financing. The recipient can be a non-profit organization, university, vocational training provider, private sector company or research institute. The deadline to receive proposals is 08 June 2021. More info

Estee Lauder — Inspiring Women in Science

The Nature Research Awards for Inspiring Women in Science are open for applications. The prize awards initiatives that support girls or young women to engage with STEM subjects or increase the retention of women in STEM careers. STEM includes natural sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine. The winners of the Nature Research Awards for Inspiring Women in Science will receive US$40 thousand. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — African Elephant Conservation Fund

The African Elephant Conservation Fund invites project proposals for the conservation of African elephants. Grants are for applied research, training, conservation management, community outreach, law enforcement, decreased human-wildlife conflicts, and other activities in elephant conservation. Grants range from US$100 thousand to US$400 thousand for conservation projects at priority sites, but requests for smaller grants are also welcomed. Eligibility for funding extends to qualified individuals; nonprofit NGOs, institutions of higher education; multi-national secretariats; and government agencies in elephant range states. Milken-Motsepe Prize — AgriTech Competition

The Milken-Motsepe Prize in AgriTech is a global competition for innovative solutions that address problems faced by farmers on small to medium-sized farms in Africa. to increase economic value to farmers. Teams submit a design and business model. An independent panel of expert judges will then select up to 25 teams to receive US$10 thousand each and advance in the competition. Registration is open to anyone (anywhere in the world), with a US$1 million grand prize available for the winning team, and US$1 million in additional prizes. Colas Group — Responsible Infrastructures

The Colas Group seeks innovative yet pragmatic and achievable ideas for responsible infrastructures that address the need for the local area’s socio-economic development while taking climate and social challenges into account. Winners receive small cash awards and product prizes. Topics include creating solutions to adapt infrastructure to climate change. Eligibility to apply to this challenge extends to students currently enrolled at a post-secondary institution or who recently graduated less than 2 years before the current scholar year. UK Royal Society — Newton International Fellowships 2021

The Newton International Fellowships support early-stage post-doctoral researchers from all over the world to work at UK research institutions for a period of two years. The scheme covers the broad range of the natural and social sciences and the humanities. Applicants should have a clearly defined and mutually-beneficial research proposal with a UK host scientist. The announcement identifies additional criteria for applicants. Funding consists of £24 thousand per annum for subsistence costs, and up to £8 thousand per annum research expenses, as well as a one-off payment of up to £3,5 thousand for relocation expenses. WASCAL — Master Research in Informatics for Climate Change

The Master Research Program in Informatics for Climate Change (MRP-INFORMCC) is implemented at the Université Joseph KI-ZERBO (Burkina Faso) and provides training in scientific computation and climate data management in West Africa. The West African Science Service Center on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) offers full scholarships to students from 11 West African countries. Candidates must have a BSc degree or equivalent in Social, Physical, and Natural Sciences and Engineering. The application deadline is 30 June 2021. Details

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung — Scholarships for International Master Students

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung awards scholarships to international master students and graduates in order to enable study and research at universities in Germany. Each year new focus countries or regions are determined for the selection procedures. In 2021, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung will focus on Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and Latin America. The scholarship is aimed at students and graduates under the age of 30 who have acquired a university degree and who intend to complete postgraduate or master studies, doctoral studies or a research stay of at least three semesters at a university in Germany. Graduates receive a monthly scholarship of € 850, PhD-students receive € 1.200, plus health insurance and family allowance. Please note that the scholarship seminar program is held in German, therefore, a sufficient knowledge of the German language (level B2) is obligatory even if the courses are taught in English. Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park — Online Accelerator Program

The Sharjah Advanced Industry Accelerator seeks innovative startups with a market-proven solution to the challenges of Industry 4.0 interested in entering the UAE and MENA market. Focus areas of the 2021 accelerator include Sustainable Design (optimizing natural resources to reduce environmental damage) and Green Building, among others. The finalists will have investment access in order to scale their project, and the chance to win the US$100 thousand grand prize.
