Wilson Center — Addressing Environmental Challenges in the Americas

The Wilson Center Latin America Fellowship Program 2019/2020 seeks applications to conduct research about and propose concrete solutions to the range of environmental threats faced by countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The residential fellowship will take place at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C. (USA). Fellows are provided with a monthly stipend for a stay of 4-6 months. Applicants must be citizens of a Latin American or Caribbean country and have an undergraduate or graduate degree and a minimum of five years of relevant work experience. Fondation Carmignac — Photojournalism Award 2019

The Carmignac Photojournalism Award aims to support a journalistic and photographic project which shows the human, social and ecological challenges the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) faces today. The contest is open to photojournalism projects that explore humanitarian issues, human-wildlife conflicts, the exploitation of natural resources (including mining, freshwater, deforestation), and other conflicts relevant to the DR Congo. The winner will receive a €50 thousand grant to carry out a 6-month field report. Submissions will be received until 16 October 2019. More

Swiss Re Foundation — Leadership Prize for Building Resilient Communities

The Swiss Re Foundation accepts applications for the 2020 Entrepreneurs for Resilience Award. The Award recognizes entrepreneurial initiatives that take innovative approaches to building resilient societies and realizing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The 2020 award will focus on innovative solutions for climate-smart agriculture, including crop and livestock production as well as aquaculture. The total prize money of US$700 thousand is divided among three winners. Applicants for the award should ideally operate in low-income communities. Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology — Research Proposals 2020

The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP) welcomes research proposals in the themes “Food Sovereignty, Energy Resilience, Ecosystem Restoration, Climate Change and Disaster Mitigation, and Sustainable Use and Protection of Local Biodiversity in Southeast Asia”. Research proposals should have a budget under Rp100 million and must be implemented within a 9-month period. The call for proposals is open to Indonesian nationals. National Geographic Society — Amazon Conservation Capacity

The National Geographic Society supports projects that empower community-based organizations and Indigenous Peoples groups engaged in forest conservation and sustainable forest management. This call supports the development and implementation of conservation programs, capacity building activities, and networking initiatives focused on achieving conservation objectives. Community projects with focus on ecotourism or climate-smart forest management practices are welcome. Applicants may request up to US$150 thousand. Earth Journalism Network — Mesoamerican Reef Story Grants

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers grants to journalists in Central America to support in-depth and investigative reporting on environmental issues related to the Mesoamerican Reef in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras. EJN expects to award around six grants ranging from US$500 to US$1,000 depending on the proposal and reporting format. Eligibility extends to early-career and mid-level journalists (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with proven track record of reporting on the effects of climate change and environmental degradation. Irish Aid — Ireland-Africa Fellows Programme 2020/21

Irish Aid offers scholarships to qualified candidates from Africa to undertake Masters degrees at universities and colleges in Ireland. Awards are made in the fields development studies, rural development, biodiversity conservation, and many other subject areas relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory. The scholarship covers course fees, flights, accommodation, monthly allowances, insurance and other incidental expenses. Eligible countries are Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. IHE Delft Institute for Water Education — PhD Fellowship in Environmental Biotechnology

IHE Delft offers a PhD fellowship as part of the “NOMAD” Project to evaluate different methods for the removal of endocrine disrupters. Research will take place at the laboratory of IHE Delft (The Netherlands). The Fellow will receive €1190 /month, plus allowance for books and study materials. Candidates must have a Master’s degree in environmental biotechnology, environmental engineering, sanitary engineering, or similar to be considered for this fellowship. Toyota Foundation — Research Grant Program 2019

The Toyota Foundation’s Research Grant Program is titled “Exploring New Values for Society”. It supports ambitious projects that adopt a panoramic view of the world and look generations into the future. Several past grants have focused on issues of climate, environment, biodiversity, and related topics. The program offers joint research grants (i.e., for team research), and individual research grants. The grant amount per project is up to 8 million yen.
