Renewable Energy Solutions for Africa Foundation — Training Course: Deployment of Renewable Energy Solutions

Renewable Energy Solutions for Africa Foundation, in partnership with Enel Foundation, invites applications for the two weeks advanced training course “Deployment of renewable energy solutions: challenges and opportunities” (Italy, November 2019). The course targets professionals serving in public institutions, energy companies, energy centers, universities and research agencies in the Africa Region. 40 selected participants will be awarded the Enel Foundation Scholarship which covers tuition fee, travel and accommodation costs. Toyota Foundation — Research Grant Program 2019

The Toyota Foundation’s Research Grant Program is titled “Exploring New Values for Society”. It supports ambitious projects that adopt a panoramic view of the world and look generations into the future. Several past grants have focused on issues of climate, environment, biodiversity, and related topics. The program offers joint research grants (i.e., for team research), and individual research grants. The grant amount per project is up to 8 million yen. Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum — Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships

The Water Advanced Research and Innovation Fellowships fund Indian participants to gain exposure and access to research facilities in water resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Daugherty Water for Food Institute. Fellowships of three to twelve months are for Indian scientists holding a PhD in water science and engineering. Internships of three to six months are for individuals currently engaged in their PhD studies in water sciences in India. The application deadline is 30 September 2019. Link

Wildlife Photo — Wildlife Photography Contest 2019

The wildlife photography contest series for 2019 is open. Wildlife Photo will award prizes worth US$18 thousand in total (including photography trips and equipment). There are three categories for submission: Wildlife Portraits; Habitats & Landscapes; and Animal Behaviour. A selection of winners and highly-commended images will be exhibited on an outdoor screen in New York City. The photo contest series is accepting entries until 31 January 2020. World Hunger Fighters Foundation — Fellowship for African Youths

The World Hunger Fighters Foundation seeks applications for the Borlaug-Adesina Fellowship. The fellowship program is aimed at African youths between the ages of 21 and 30 years old. The fellows will be invited to attend the WHFF Africa Youth Institute at the World Food Prize Foundation in Iowa (USA). The deadline for applications is 31 July 2019. Click here

Organic Farming Research Foundation — Organic Farming Research Grants 2020

The Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) offers funding for research on organic farming and food systems and the dissemination of these research results to organic farmers and agricultural and research communities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Priorities are research on soil health; weed control; pest management; livestock health; climate change; social science research; and research on critical issues. OFRF particularly encourages farmers, ranchers, graduate students, early-career researchers, veterans, and extension personnel to consider applying for funding. United Nations University — ProSPER.Net Leadership Program 2019

The UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability is the Secretariat for ProSPER.Net (Promotion of Sustainability in Postgraduate Education and Research Network) in the Asia-Pacific region. The ProSPER.Net Leadership Programme helps its participants to develop interdisciplinary skills for sustainable development initiatives in local, regional, or global contexts. This year’s theme is ‘Engineering Approaches to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Towards Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region’. Individuals from the Asia-Pacific region interested and working in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and management are invited to apply. Fellowships to cover the costs of participation are available. UNESCO — Ethics of Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability

UNESCO seeks nominations for the Avicenna Prize for Ethics in Science 2019 with a special thematic focus on climate change and environmental sustainability. The prize consists of a gold medal, a certificate, and US$50 thousand. The prize may be conferred upon individuals, institutions, other entities or non-governmental organizations. National Geographic Society — AI for Earth Innovation

In partnership with Microsoft, the National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that focus on the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to better monitor and manage Earth’s natural systems for a more sustainable future. The grants will support the creation and deployment of open source trained models and algorithms in the focus core areas of climate change, agriculture, and water. National Geographic Society — Biodiversity Exploration and Discovery

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world to find and describe new species, and better understand the patterns of distribution and abundance of poorly known groups of organisms. Please note that NatGeo requires that any expeditions intending to collect specimens have permissions from and operate under the biodiversity legislation of the host country. Preference will be given to proposals from applicants residing in the country of fieldwork. Projects that include the active involvement of early career conservationists are encouraged.
