The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers grants to journalists in the Indian and Bangladeshi regions of the Bay of Bengal to support in-depth stories on climate and environmental change. ENJ seeks in-depth stories that focus on climate and environmental change, such as climate-induced migration, agricultural and water issues or food security in the Bay of Bengal region. EJN expects to award around 15 grants averaging US$1 thousand each. Journalists from print, web, radio and television are eligible. U.S. Department of State — YSEALI Bootcamp: Malaysia
The YSEALI Bootcamp, organized by the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia in collaboration with Me.reka and Biji-biji Initiative, is an initiative seeking innovative solutions to local challenges across the themes social entrepreneurship, sustainable development, civic engagement, and education. Interested participants must be 18 to 35 years old and demonstrate interest, knowledge, or professional experience in at least one of the main areas. Participants will receive 3-month of intensive business training/mentorship and a few selected groups will win a project grant of RM2 thousand to kick-start and implement their solutions. The British Council supports research workshops under the programs Researcher Links and the Newton Fund to assist early-career researchers to interact and explore research collaborations. Securing Water for Food — Summer Research Project
Securing Water for Food seeks master-level students or master-level graduates to act as field evaluators to conduct in-country, field research with SWFF in Ethiopia, India, Uganda, Bangladesh or South Africa. SWFF is looking for candidates that have the skills and interest in gathering qualitative and quantitative data from farmers and other stakeholders in emerging market economies. Selected applicants will receive a roundtrip airfare to and from the country of destination, a stipend of US$2,500 to cover trip expenses and another US$2,500 payment after submission of final deliverables. The Mwalimu Nyerere African Union Scholarship Scheme encourages the participation of young African refugees and internally displaced persons at postgraduate level, for Masters and PhD programmes in the fields of Natural Sciences, Agriculture, Health, Education, Engineering, and Social Sciences. Candidates must be under 35 years and have proof of admission to undertake a full time Masters program at a recognized university of an African Union Member State. European Commission — Horizon Prize for Clean Engines
The European Commission invites applications to the ‘Horizon Prize for the Cleanest Engine of the Future’. The prize not only aims at improving air quality, but also at contributing to the greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets agreed at COP21, as well as to increase energy efficiency. The contest is open to all legal entities (i.e. natural or legal persons) or groups of legal entities. The total prize amount is €3.5 million. The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers grants to support stories focused on monitoring and investigating the illegal wildlife trade in Europe. Typical grant sizes for this project are in the range of US$4 thousand to US$6 thousand (in special cases up to US$10 thousand). Investigative journalists with prior experience covering wildlife crime are invited to apply. Journalists interested in applying for funding have to contact EJN via email. The Innovate Green Competition (IGC) is a cooperative initiative that aims to stimulate entrepreneurship within university students in the MENA region. Individuals or groups of up to 3 university students with innovative solutions addressing environmental challenges are invited to apply to the competition. One member from each of the top three finalists will be invited to the 4th UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-4) in Nairobi (March 2019). The winners receive cash prizes of up to US$10 thousand. The African Academy of Sciences (AAS), the UK Department for International Development (DFID) Weather and Climate information SERvices for Africa (WISER) and the Africa Climate Policy Centre (ACPC) announce an initiative to support Africa-led climate science research through the Climate Research for Development (CR4D) in Africa initiative. CR4D will award 1-year research grants to 15 African climate researchers of up to US$130 thousand.
