The USDA invites applications for the 2019 Borlaug Cocoa Fellowships. The program aims to provide fellows with the skills and knowledge in the production and marketing of cocoa and cocoa products. Fellows from eligible countries in West Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean work with a mentor at USDA’s Agricultural Research Service or a U.S. university for up to 12 weeks. The U.S. mentor later visits the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration. The research priorities vary by region and country. The application deadline is 31 December 2018. Swedish International Development Agency — Training on Healthy Livestock and Safe Food
Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from developing countries. Organizations in Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia, Tanzania, and Uganda are invited to nominate candidates for the 12-months Training Programme ‘Healthy Livestock and Safe Food’. The overall objective of this programme is to reduce poverty and vulnerability among smallholder farmers. Candidates representing government organisations, private companies or NGOs at national, regional or local level are encouraged to apply. The training will take place in Sweden. Solutions should be pragmatic, efficient, durable, and money-saving to make life easier for urban citizens while reducing their environmental footprint. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) jointly invite applications for the CAS-TWAS President’s PhD Fellowship Programme to pursue PhD studies in China. The participating institutions are the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences; the University of Science and Technology of China; and CAS institutes around China. Eligible fields of study include agricultural sciences, various fields of agricultural sciences, biology, and other areas of the natural sciences and engineering. IHE Delft welcomes applications for a new short course on Water Resilient Recovery, focusing on disaster recovery and long term climate resilient planning. The course consists of an online portion covering much of the theory and background, starting on 10 December 2018. The second part of the course will consist of a 1-week face-to-face training in Singapore. A small number of scholarships are available. EarthCorps — International Program 2019
EarthCorps invites applications from emerging environmental leaders around the world to participate in an environmental service program in the USA. Participants from the USA and other countries take part in field projects such as tree planting, trail construction, stream restoration, and removal of invasive plants. The international Program is a 6-month learning experience for non-U.S. citizens, which takes place in Seattle, Washington, USA. Applicants should be 18-28 years of age, with a university degree in an environmental field (or equivalent work experience), and speak conversational English. International participants receive a living stipend, health insurance, and accommodations with host families. However, each participant is responsible for her/his travel to Seattle, Washington. Organization for Tropical Studies — Research Scholarships 2019
The OTS manages a research fellowship program to support field research in tropical biology and related fields. The program offers three types of awards: pilot awards for exploratory research; thesis research fellowships; and ECTS-GS fellowships. Most awards are restricted to three OTS field stations in Costa Rica. Exceptions are one annual fellowship for research at the Cocha Cashu field station in Peru, and the Hovore-Horn Entomology awards in any Latin American country. Overseas Development Institute — Fellowships 2019-21
The Overseas Development Institute (ODI) is an independent think tank on international development and humanitarian issues. The ODI Fellowship Scheme appoints highly qualified postgraduate economists and statisticians through a competitive selection process. The fellowship scheme is open to candidates of all nationalities who have a master’s degree or PhD in economics, statistics or a related field. Suitable specialised qualifications at postgraduate level include agricultural economics, environmental economics, water and climate, among others. Conservation International (CI) offers the Indigenous Leaders Conservation Fellowship to leaders from indigenous and traditional peoples. For the 2019-2020 fellowship year, the Indigenous Leaders Conservation Fellowship will support two distinct fellowship tracks: the Indigenous Women’s Fellowship and the Emerging Leaders Fellowship.
