Engineers Without Borders Canada (EWB) invites applications for the EWB Kumvana Fellowship 2019. The program gives African social entrepreneurs and changemakers the opportunity to foster collaborations with Canadian professionals. The Kumvana program consists of an 8-week online learning course, a one week African retreat, and a 1-month intensive Canadian experience. British Council — Africa-UK Trilateral Call
The National Research Foundation (NRF) and the British Council announce the Africa-UK Trilateral Call. The call aims to support African researchers to establish research excellence and collaboration between Africa-UK and a third African Country. Proposals are invited from eligible applicants for the DST-NRF/British Council Africa-UK Trilateral Chair. Proposals should focus on the following priorities: Food Security, Sustainable and Renewable Energy, Manufacturing for SMEs (including Agro-processing), Governance and conflict resolution related to development, and Cross-Cutting Themes. SEED — SAG-Seed Replicator Workshops for Eco-Enterprises in Zambia
SEED is a global partnership founded by UNEP, UNDP, and IUCN to promote eco-enterprises. The program announces its next replicator workshop in Zambia. The replicator workshop of one day introduce motivated individuals to proven business models from various countries. Participants will learn how to adapt them to your individual local context to solve environmental, social and economic challenges. Focus areas are manufacturing, waste management and agriculture. UK Arts and Humanities Research Council — Early Career Researcher Project Development Workshop
The GCRF programme launches a new funding scheme for Early Career Researchers (ECRs), supporting research that considers the relationship between young people and civil society organisations (CSO) in post-conflict countries. Over the course of the two-day workshop (25-26 October 2018 in London, UK), participants will develop their project ideas, receive critical feedback and insight from international peers and experts. After the workshop, participants will have 5 weeks to submit their application. (Note: Proposed projects may focus on one or more themes in the area of sustainable development in the categories of the Terra Viva Grants Directory.) ECR Grant Awards range from £15-£30 thousand. The Newton-Mosharafa Fund supports British and Egyptian scientific researchers and innovators to find joint solutions to the challenges facing Egypt in economic development and social welfare through training and researcher mobility schemes. The five focus areas of the currently open call include sustainable water management, renewable energy, and sustainable food production; among two others. MASHAV funds professional courses organized and hosted by Israeli institutions in subject areas that include agriculture, energy, natural resources, health, education, and social development. The remainder of the 2018 calendar in English-language courses includes one on Agricultural Engineering Technologies (October-November 2018), with an application deadline on 05 August 2018; Agroecological Approaches for Sustainable Intensive Agriculture (October-November 2018), with an application deadline on 20 August 2018; Urban Water Technologies and Management (November 2018), with an application deadline on 24 August 2018; Renewable Energy as a Catalyst for Regional Development (November-December 2018), with an application deadline on 31 August 2018; and Intensive Fish Farming (December 2018), with an application deadline on 28 September 2018. Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data — Data for Development Projects 2018
The GPSDD seeks innovative proposals for data production, dissemination, and use. This year’s call is anchored around two themes: Scaling local data for impact and Fostering synergies between the communities. Smaller amounts of funding (starting at US$25 thousand) are made for riskier, unproven innovations at the pilot stage. Larger amounts of funding (up to US$250 thousand) will be awarded to proposals which have a clear justification. The pilot funding round will close on 15 August 2018. Link
Youth Peace Initiative — Peacebuilders Video Contest
The Youth Peace Initiative (YPI), together with the Carnegie Foundation and the United Network Of Young Peacebuilders, invites young filmmakers between 18 and 29 years to submit videos that highlight best practices and achievements of young grassroots peace activists (Note: This may include environmental peacebuilding). The best videos compete for the Youth Carnegie Peace Prize. The winner will be awarded with the title ‘Youth Ambassador of the Peace Palace’ during the One Young World Summit in The Hague (The Netherlands) in September/October 2018.
