National Geographic Society — Science Communication

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals addressing environmental issues by communicating science. The NGS seeks proposals from around the world that advance the science of nature communication by systematically testing visual communication and education methods. The call is intended for visual artists, photographers, and videographers who aim to more effectively create and use images or video to overcome apathy towards species and ecosystems. National Geographic Society — Democratizing Science

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals from around the world that will engage learners and avocational researchers in citizen science activities to address real world problems, and lead to actions in science and conservation. Proposed projects should explore how digital tools like cameras, drones, live streaming services, and digital imagery might be transformed into group actions. Islamic Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation — Research Grants

ISESCO Research Grants are awarded for high-level and promising scientific research projects in the fields of agricultural biotechnology, biological sciences, and medicinal plants, among others. Researchers are awarded a maximum amount of US$10 thousand for a period of two years. Applicants should be national residents of OIC member states and be under the age of 40 years. Future Africa Institute — Early Career Fellowship

The University of Pretoria announces a new Early Career Fellowship that aims to develop research leadership for the African Bioeconomy. The program will require that at least 70% (8-9 months) of the academic year is spent at the Future Africa Campus of the University of Pretoria. Applications are welcome for such topic areas as technological and non-technological exploitation of natural resources, ecological issues and climate change, and others. Emerging research leaders in the natural and social sciences and humanities are encouraged to apply. Access Power — Renewable Energy in Africa

Access Power is a developer, owner, and operator of power projects in emerging markets, focusing on Africa and the Middle East. The 2018 edition of the Access Co-Development Facility (ACF) will provide US$7 million to support up to three projects in renewable energy in Africa. Submitted projects must be located in Africa; use a commercially proven technology for power generation; and be based on renewable energy or hybrid power generation. Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences — Research Fellowships 2018

JIRCAS provides fellowships to researchers in developing countries to collaborate with Japanese counterparts for research in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. “Tsukuba” fellowships are carried out at the JIRCAS headquarters in Japan. “Project Site” fellowships are at research institutes in the developing countries where JIRCAS collaborative research projects are being implemented. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Caribbean Regional Program

The Caribbean Program of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) invites proposals for the conservation of species, habitats and ecological processes across landscapes with high biodiversity value in the Caribbean. About 15-20 grants of up to US$90 thousand will be awarded for one year. Eligibility for grants extends to qualified and relevant non-profit organizations, universities, and individuals. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Combating Wildlife Trafficking (Priority Species)

The U.S. government seeks to fund projects that take a multifaceted approach in dealing with the problem of illegal wildlife trafficking of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine species, including: elephants, rhinos, tigers, sharks, tuna, sea turtles, land tortoises, great apes, exotic birds, pangolins, sturgeon, coral, iguanas, chameleons, and tarantulas. Requested grants should range from US$50 thousand to a maximum of US$200 thousand. Eligibility for grants extends worldwide to qualified and relevant government agencies, other organizations, multi-national secretariats, and individuals. Swedish International Development Agency — International Training for East Africans in Healthy Livestock & Safe Food

Sida funds short-term training in selected development topics for participants from developing countries. The East Africa regional program includes a course in healthy livestock and safe food for applicants from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda. Invited to participate are governmental departments and agencies, including universities, research institutes and laboratories, cooperatives and other interest groups as well as non-governmental organizations engaged in the sectors of animal health, food safety and antimicrobial resistance.
