The International Council for Science (ICSU), in partnership with the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC), will support up to 11 collaborative research projects across Africa that explore integrated approaches for sustainable urban development in Africa. Applicants should be early career scientists with no more than 10 years work experience following their PhDs. Each selected research project will receive up to €90 thousand for two years. Explorers Club – Scott Pearlman Field Awards 2018
The Explorers Club is a multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research, and to preserving the instinct to explore. The Scott Pearlman Field Awards are grants for artists, writers, filmmakers, photographers, and journalists in support of scientific expeditions sponsored by the Explorers Club. The winning candidate will receive a cash award of $10 thousand. Applicants do not have to be a member of The Explorers Club to qualify for a grant, and there are no nationality or age restrictions. Rotary and the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education provide scholarships to students studying Water and Sanitation. Candidates must live or work near a Rotary club and be admitted to one of the following degree programs at IHE Delft (joint programs are not eligible): (1) MSc in Urban Water and Sanitation; (2) MSc in Water Management and Governance; or (3) MSc in Water Science and Engineering. The 7th International Conference on Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Management (26-27 July 2018 in Melbourne, Australia) is a global platform to meet worldwide professionals in environment science, discuss and learn about Ecology and its associated fields. U.S. Agency for International Development — Women in Science Mentoring Program
The PEER Women in Science Mentoring Program aims to help retain women in science and teach early career scientists to write successful international research awards. The USAID PEER Program invites applications from African Mentor-Mentee Cohorts. Cohorts should be made up of one woman senior faculty mentor and 2-4 women mentees (postdocs and/or junior faculty). Mentors will receive a US$2 thousand honorarium. Mentees will receive training and the opportunity to compete for small seed grants (US$10 thousand) following their participation in the year-long mentoring program. World Bank — Public-Private Infrastructure in Water, Energy, and Transportation
The World Bank’s Public-Private Infrastructure Advisory Facility (PPIAF) welcomes submissions on topics pertaining to private-sector participation in infrastructure, public-private partnerships, and sub-national finance for energy, water, and transportation. PPIAF is looking for knowledge products that provide lessons learned or best practices which can be applied across countries and across regions. African Union — Scholarship for African Women in Science
The Mwalimu Nyerere African Union Scholarship Scheme encourages the participation of young African female students at postgraduate level, for Masters and PhD programmes in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Candidates must be under 35 years for Masters or under 40 years for PhD studies and have proof of admission to undertake a full time Masters or PhD programme at a recognized university of an African Union Member State. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation seeks innovators who positively engage young people (under the age of 30) in Global Citizenship. Investigators are invited to propose innovative and creative solutions that uses new knowledge to positively engage young people in no poverty, zero hunger, clean water and sanitation and other thematic areas of sustainable development. Claves21 — Online Biodiversity Course for Spanish-speaking Journalists
Claves21, in partnership with the Earth Journalism Network, has launched a free online course on biodiversity for Spanish-speaking journalists.The course will begin on March 12th and cover biodiversity science and policy, how to communicate on biodiversity, and digital tools to support biodiversity reporting. The three best final works will receive a cash award, consisting of a diploma and $ 5,000 (Argentine Pesos) for the first place, $ 4,000 for the second place and $ 3,000 for the third place.The submission of a journalistic work is required for the approval of the course. U.S. Department of State — Aspiring Women Entrepreneurs Program
The US Department of State provides entrepreneurship training, mentoring, and support for female students currently enrolled at Indian universities. Ideas may be based on scientific or technological research undertaken at the university or innovation created by the student independently. Selected participants will take part in a six-week online course, meet for an intense weekend workshop at the Nexus Startup Hub at the American Center New Delhi, and travel to Texas for a two-week program exploring commercial opportunities and markets.
