Securing Water for Food — Photo Contest

The Securing Water for Food (SWFF) Global Water-Agriculture Photo Contest will call attention to the significant issue of water scarcity, while recognizing and celebrating steps being taken around the world to improve water and food security. The four themes for photos are: agriculture; water; technology related to water-agriculture; and men and women working in agriculture. Cash prizes are up to US$500. Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network — Climate Change Storytelling Competition

The Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network, in partnership with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, announces the ACCCRN Storytelling Competition 2017. The competition invites climate stories about impacts, actions, and innovations under the theme “Beat the Heat: How inclusive cities are coping with rising temperatures”. Shortlisted finalists will be invited to attend an Urban Heat Resilience storytelling workshop from 27-30 November 2017 in Jakarta, Indonesia. The deadline for story submissions is 30 September 2017. AuthorAID — Online Course in Research Communication

AuthorAID announces a free online course in research communication for early-career researchers in developing countries. The course duration is seven weeks, beginning 03 October. The course aims to cover literature review; research and publication ethics; targeting the right journals; writing and publishing a research paper; and communicating research outside academia. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation — Doctoral Scholarships 2018

Each year, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation awards up to fifteen scholarships to Canadian and international doctoral candidates pursuing research related to one of its four founding themes, one of which is “People and their Natural Environment.” This theme includes studies of a social, economic or political nature that lead to the identification, evaluation, or dissemination of sustainable environmental practices. It also includes an interest in environmental security at the global level, and in the link between healthy ecosystems, communities, and individuals. Candidates must be nominated by the Canadian or international institution where they wish to study or are currently studying. Universities can nominate a candidate from their institution who is pursuing doctoral studies at another university. Organic Farming Research Foundation — Research Grants 2018

OFRF offers funding for research on organic farming and food systems and the dissemination of these research results to organic farmers and agricultural and research communities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Priorities are research on soil health; innovative weed control; issues of emerging insects and diseases; and livestock health.  OFRF particularly encourages farmers, ranchers, graduate students, early-career researchers, veterans, and extension personnel to consider applying for funding. Netherlands Fellowship Program — KOP Funding for Short Courses

The Netherlands Fellowship Program has started a new phase under the name KOP (Kennisontwikkelings programma). The first round of KOP offers scholarships for short courses in the Netherlands to applicants from the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Bhutan, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cuba, Djibouti, Dem Rep Congo, Georgia, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Macedonia, Mongolia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Surinam, Thailand, and Zimbabwe. The subject areas for short courses include many in agriculture and environment, among others. Applicants in participating countries study the course database to find short courses eligible for scholarships. The profile of each course identifies the application deadline and how to apply to the Dutch university, including contact information.  For candidates that are selected, the Dutch university submits the application for KOP scholarships. Rise Fund — Under 30 Impact Challenge

The Rise Fund is partnering with Forbes and Echoing Green to sponsor the “Under 30 Impact Challenge.” The challenge is designed to celebrate entrepreneurs around the world, under the age of 30, who are building successful for-profit enterprises that drive positive social and environmental impact. The eligible sectors include energy, food and agriculture, and five others. Applicants must be under age 30, and their businesses must be in a growth phase. There are no restrictions by nationality or residence. The winner will qualify for an investment of US$250 thousand by The Rise Fund, plus an in-kind media grant by Forbes. The submission deadline is 06 September 2017. 

UNIDO Institute — Training Course on Sustainable Energy

UNIDO and the Energy Academy Europe (EAE) are organizing a training course for professionals to address key issues relating to sustainable energy. Participation is open to mid-level professionals from emerging and developing countries with expertise in industrial development, energy and environment, and other relevant fields. The 8-day course will provide participants the opportunity to familiarize themselves with trends in sustainable energy solutions. Training sessions and all materials will be in English (no translation will be provided). The number of participants is limited to 25 persons. Applications will be closed on 15 September 2017. Qatar National Research Fund — Qatar-UK Research Networking

The Qatar National Research Fund, in collaboration with UK partners, is launching the Qatar-UK Research Networking Programme. The joint programme is designed to support the participation of early-career researchers in workshops focusing on building links for future collaboration between Qatar and the UK.
