Commonwealth Scholarship Commission — Professional Fellowships 2024/25

Commonwealth Professional Fellowships support mid-career professionals from developing Commonwealth countries to make professional visits (typically of three months) with UK host organizations. Applications are invited in the thematic area of clean energy, air, and oceans. Fellows must be Commonwealth citizens, refugees, or British-protected persons — and they must be permanent residents in a developing Commonwealth country. World Bank Group — Africa Fellowship Program 2025

The Africa Region of the World Bank Group seeks applications for the 2025 WBG-Africa Fellowship Program for Ph.D. Students and recent Ph.D. graduates who are Sub-Saharan nationals. Fellows will spend at least six months at the World Bank offices in Washington, D.C., or in a Sub-Saharan country, getting hands-on experience in development work. While benefiting from research and innovation in multiple sectors, fellows will also work on economic policy, technical assistance, and lending to eliminate poverty and increase shared prosperity. Fellows will receive consultant fees, economy-class air travel, and worker’s compensation insurance. The program invites applications from recent Ph.D. graduates, or current doctoral students, in disciplinary fields that include agriculture, energy, and others. Water Research Foundation — Watershed and Sewershed Monitoring

The Water Research Foundation (WRF) seeks applications for the “Case Studies for Successful Watershed and Sewershed Monitoring and Decision Making” project. Proposers are encouraged to recommend deliverables in alignment with the project objectives and desired outcomes. Applicants may request up to US$150 thousand in funds for this project. Proposals will be accepted from both U.S.-based and non-U.S.-based entities, including educational institutions, research organizations, governmental agencies, and consultants or other for-profit entities. Both ENDS — JWH Initiative

The Joke Waller-Hunter (JWH) Initiative offers grants to advance the leadership of young individuals working for or affiliated with environmental civil society organizations in developing and emerging countries. JWH especially encourages the nomination of young women and local community leaders. Grants range from €2,500 to €7,000. The next nomination deadline is 29 August 2024. Details here

MDPI — Plants Awards 2025

MDPI is a publisher of peer-reviewed, open-access journals. The publisher has several awards in the category “Plants.” MDPI currently invites nominations for the Plants Best Paper Award, the Best Plant PhD Thesis Award, the Plant Travel Award, and the Outstanding Reviewer Award. The winner will receive CHF500 in prize money. The deadlines for nominations are 31 August 2024 for the Plant PhD Thesis Award, 31 October 2024 for the Travel Award, 31 March 2025 for the Outstanding Reviewer Award, and 30 June 2025 for the Best Paper Award. One World Media — Climate and Labor Film Grant

One World Media seeks experienced filmmakers who want to explore, through a short documentary, how climate change is affecting lives and work in the Global South. The film needs to be 25 minutes or less and be completed by June 2025. The successful filmmaker will receive up to £20 thousand in funding for their film. TREE Fund — Funding for Arboriculture and Urban Forestry

The Jack Kimmel International Grant Program makes grants to researchers in arboriculture and urban forestry worldwide. Projects of one to three years are funded to a maximum of US$10 thousand. In 2024, the grant program will be focused specifically on Arboriculture; Tree Health; and Risk Assessment. Applicants must send a brief Letter of Inquiry (LOI) before 15 September 2024 to apply. TREE Fund — Research in Arboriculture

The John Z. Duling Grant Program offers funding up to US$25 thousand for 1-3 years to support exploratory work in the early stages of untested but potentially transformative research in arboriculture. In 2024, the program will focus on Propagation, Plant Selection, Development of New Varieties, and Planting/Establishment. Applicants can be of any national or ethnic origin. European Environment Agency — Photo Competition

The European Environment Agency (EEA) invites nature and photography enthusiasts to showcase their photographic talent in the 2024 edition of our annual photo competition. This year’s competition “Urban Treasures” captures the essence of cities and towns through inspiring moments that give us joy and hope for a more sustainable tomorrow. 3 winners receive €1000 for “best photo” in each category. The competition is open to the citizens of the EU 27 Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Türkiye, North Macedonia, Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Wilson Center — International Fellowship Program

The Woodrow Wilson Center offers a 9-month residential fellowship to scholars, practitioners, journalists, and public intellectuals. Fellows conduct research in their areas of interest while interacting with policymakers in Washington and Wilson Center staff and other scholars in residence. The Center accepts proposals that address key challenges confronting the United States and the world. The Center offers a stipend of US$90 thousand.
