International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) — Assessing the Impacts of Agricultural Insurance
3ie invites proposals under its new thematic window on the impact of agricultural insurance for smallholder farmers. 3ie hopes to address the gaps in what works and what does not in programmes of agricultural insurance that aim to mitigate risks in producing agricultural crops and livestock. Applications will be accepted for evaluations in low and lower middle-income countries, and in countries of priority to the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID). Applications are invited from legally registered organisations and consortia of registered organisations. The research team should include at least one researcher who is a national of the country in which the programme is being implemented. The first phase will provide up to 14 grants for formative or process evaluations of not more than US$75 thousand each for a period of 8-10 months. U.S. Department of State — Cleaner Production in Central America
In support of its trade agreement with the region, the U.S. government offers funding to promote cleaner production practices and technologies in micro, small, and medium enterprises of Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. Eligibility for funding extends to nonprofit NGOs, limited liability companies, educational institutions, and public international organizations. The Ornithological Council makes grants for projects in ornithological research and conservation in Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) — Livelihoods for Resilience in Ethiopia
USAID in Addis Ababa requests applications from qualified and eligible organizations to manage and implement the activity, “Feed the Future Ethiopia Livelihoods for Resilience.” The program aims to improve Ethiopia’s crop and livestock market systems; increase off-farm economic diversification; expand employment generation; and promote learning and adaptation. Institute of International Education — Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program
The Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program (CADFP) is a fellowship program for African-born academics currently living in the USA and Canada, and working in higher education. Fellows engage in educational projects for periods ranging from two weeks to three months at universities and colleges in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. There are no restrictions by disciplinary areas. Past fellows include examples in veterinary medicine, biology, forestry, and other areas of the natural sciences. Belgian Development Agency (BTC) — Fair and Sustainable Trade in Precious Metals
BTC’s program in Trade for Development offers grants to improve the market access of organizations that are committed to fair and sustainable trade, including trade in precious metals. Among other objectives, project activities include the reduction of negative environmental impacts of mining and metals extraction. Grants ranging from €50 thousand to €100 thousand are available to private nonprofit and private for-profit organizations (if composed of 50% or more cooperative producers) in the following countries: Algeria, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Dem Rep Congo, Ecuador, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Palestinian Territories, Peru, Rwanda,Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Vietnam.
