The WomenConnect Challenge is a global call for solutions to improve women’s participation in everyday life. USAID seeks comprehensive solutions that empower women and girls to access and use digital technology to drive positive health, education, and livelihood outcomes for themselves and their families. USAID will support the development of selected pilot approaches through technical assistance and monetary support. Approx. three grants ranging from US$900 thousand to US$1 million will be made for projects of up to 24 months in duration. The British Council Small-Scale Research Project Scheme provides funding (up to £5 thousand) for early-career researchers in the UK and countries in South Asia. The funding is intended for collaborative research projects in the theme water (e.g. water resource management, water health and sanitation, water cooperation and diplomacy), among others. Partnerships must be formed between a UK university/research institute and a university/research institute in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka. The Know-how Exchange Program co-finances the transfer of know-how and best practices from EU to non-EU member countries of the Central European Initiative (CEI). Thematic areas in the current call by KEP-Italy include energy, environment, and agriculture and rural development (among others). Proposals are submitted by organizations in CEI member states which are also member states of the European Union for knowledge transfers to non-EU member states of the CEI. The non-EU members of the CEI are Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Ukraine. The maximum grant is €40 thousand. The Government of Canada seeks Canadian Small and Medium Organizations (SMO) to apply to the Development Impact Window. The aim of this call is to reduce poverty and vulnerability in developing countries by promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls. Action areas under this call include one on ‘Environment and Climate Action’. The total amount of funding available under this call is up to CA$36 million over five years. MacArthur Foundation — $100 Million to Solve a Critical Problem
The MacArthur Foundation seeks applications for the 100&Change competition. The winner will receive US$100 million to develop and implement a project that addresses a critical problem affecting people, places, or the planet. The competition is open to organizations working in any field of endeavor anywhere in the world. Applicants must identify the problem they are trying to solve, as well as their proposed solution. European Commission — Agribusiness Support Zambia
The European Commission seeks to reduce rural poverty and malnutrition and to improve rural livelihoods in Zambia. Projects under this call should focus on (1) Increasing investments in agriculture (including fish farming), (2) Facilitating the creation and strengthening of smallholder farmer and agribusiness associations, and (3) Generating employment opportunities, in particular for women and youth. The overall amount made available under this call is €26 million. U.S. Department of State — U.S.-ASEAN Water Smart Exchanges
The U.S. Office of Conservation and Water seeks US applicants for the U.S.-ASEAN Smart Cities Partnership Water-Smart Exchanges (WiSE) program. The Program will pair cities in the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN) with counterparts in the United States to expand the adoption of new technologies and innovative approaches to improve the management of water resources. ASCN participants will tour U.S. locations to study water management practices and technology innovations. One single award of up to US$1.4 million is available for an initial project period of three years. Eligibility is limited to U.S. non-profit organizations and educational institutions.
