Canada Fund for Local Initiatives — Community Projects in Guatemala and Belize

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) invites proposals that meet the needs of local communities in Guatemala and Belize. CFLI provides funding to projects that implement environment and climate action projects focusing on adaptation and mitigation, water management, and other thematic priorities. The average contribution is C$15 thousand to C$35 thousand per project. Eligibility extends to not-for-profit local, national or community-based organizations. OPEC Fund for International Development — Young Professional Development Program

The Young Professional Development Program (YPDP) is a two-year program designed to prepare young professionals from OPEC Fund member countries for a career in global development. The themes include poverty reduction, energy and sustainable development, environment, and other related science and technology fields. YPDP offers training, coaching and mentoring, the opportunity to experience different departments and access to professional networks. To be selected for the program, applicants must be 30 years of age (or younger) and hold a Master’s degree. The deadline for applications is 24 March 2023. More about the YPDP

Inter-American Development Bank — Women in STEM Competition

WeXchange seeks to identify the most innovative women entrepreneurs in STEM from Latin America and the Caribbean and connect them with potential financing opportunities. The competition supports female entrepreneurs in tech (e.g., agritech, biotech, sustainable energy etc.). 15 women-led startups will pitch their business to investors and participate in a micro-acceleration program with workshops, keynotes and one-on-one mentoring sessions. Eligibility extends to startups with a high technological component or where Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are key pieces. The application deadline is 31 March 2023. Details here

Acumen Academy — Artisanal Fisheries Leadership Program

Acumen Academy and the Environmental Defense Fund launch a Latin American Artisanal Fisheries Leadership Program for Change Agents leading equitable and sustainable fisheries initiatives. The program is open to leaders with at least 5 years of experience leading artisanal fishing organizations or initiatives or within fishing communities. The program offers leadership training and a strong community to develop future projects. The program only accepts applications from change agents from the artisanal fishing industry working in any Latin American country, including Caribbean countries. Village Capital — Ecosystem Restoration

Village Capital invites applications for the “Innovation for Ecosystem Restoration: LatAm 2023” accelerator. The  program addresses entrepreneurs championing forest restoration, restoration of aquatic production ecosystems and rewilding throughout Latin America. Participants will receive mentorship and access to an investment analyst. Eligibility extends to (for-profit) startups building locally viable ecosystem restoration solutions. Commission for Environmental Cooperation — Youth Innovation Challenge 2023

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) invites youth to propose innovative solutions that address and respond to critical issues related to water. Residents of Canada, Mexico and the United States (and its territories) aged 18-30 are eligible to submit science, technology and business innovations. The winner will receive up to C$15 thousand in seed funding and mentoring from the Commission for Environmental Cooperation. Submissions are due by 03 April 2023. Youth Innovation Challenge

Government of India — Indo-Argentina Joint Research Program

The Governments of India and Argentina invite joint research projects by researchers of both countries. The aim is to encourage scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. Proposals for joint research in biotechnology and energy transition are eligible. The fund will cover research expenses, exchange of visits for research projects, and workshops. World Resources Institute — Land Accelerator Brazil

The Land Accelerator is a training and mentorship program targeted specifically toward businesses that restore degraded forests, farmland, and pasture. The Land Accelerator Brazil specifically targets entrepreneurs whose businesses restore Brazil’s Atlantic Forest. Participants profit from mentorship and networking opportunities, technical training, and workshops. Five companies will receive financial support of up to R$50 thousand. U.S. Government — International Environmental Governance Capacity Building

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency seeks applications for a collaborative program that would enhance environmental governance capacity in several regions in Central America and the Caribbean, South America, the Middle East and North Africa, and other bilateral initiatives, including Mexico, China, Indonesia, Taiwan, Sub-Sahara Africa, Ukraine, and Brazil. Applications will be accepted from local governments; international organizations; public and private universities; and non-profit institutions. Horticulture Innovation Lab — Horticulture Research Projects Central America

The Horticulture Innovation Lab seeks technical applications from local organizations to research appropriate technologies for climate smart agriculture for small-sized farms in Honduras and Guatemala. The selected research projects will be funded at US$250 thousand up to US$750 thousand. The Horticulture Innovation Lab seeks research applications led by local organizations that are relevant to smallholder farmers and disadvantaged populations.
