U.S. Department of State — Combating Wildlife Trafficking in the Dominican Republic

The United States Agency for International Development seeks applications from qualified entities to implement the “Combating Wildlife Trafficking” program. USAID aims to reduce threats to biodiversity in the Caribbean region by reducing the illegal collection and poaching of wildlife for international trade related to demand for pets or collections, food, medicines, jewelry and crafts. University St. Gallen — Consolidation Grant with Latin America

The Consolidation Grant promotes sustainable, longer-term research cooperation between Swiss and Latin American scholars. The goal is to provide financing for the organization of collective workshops, conferences, and fieldwork, as well as for the mobility of young researchers. The Leading House invites scholars from Switzerland to propose research projects in any Latin American country, involving bilateral or multilateral partnerships. The call is open to all disciplines and fields. Grants between CHF 25 thousand and CHF 50 thousand will be awarded. The application deadline is 31 July 2022. Link

Government of Norway — Small Grants Program on Plastic Waste

The Small Grant Program on Plastic Waste seeks to improve the management of plastic waste and contribute towards preventing and significantly reducing marine pollution. The Program seeks to identify and implement low-cost high impact pilot projects on the ground. Selected projects will seek to enhance capacities in partner countries to implement and enforce the Basel Convention and manage plastic waste in an environmentally sound manner. Budgets range from US$65 thousand to US$180 thousand. The projects will benefit countries in Asia-Pacific, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Central and Eastern Europe. European Commission — Civil Society Development in Jamaica and Belize

The European Commission (EC) aims to promote capacity development of local civil society in Jamaica and Belize. The action aims to contribute to an inclusive and independent civil society which engages in decision making, is able to address and respond to development challenges, and empowers women and girls. Applicants may request between €150 thousand and €500 thousand in project funding. Eligibility extends to non-profit organizations established in the European Union, Jamaica or Belize The deadline for submission of concept notes is 10 June 2022. Details

United States Agency for International Development — Environmental and Economic Reactivation Partnerships

The Ecuador New Environmental and Economic Reactivation Partnerships Initiative is designed to increase seascape conservation, combat illegal fishing, reduce ocean plastic pollution, achieve sustainable forests management, and support forest carbon sequestration and economic reactivation. USAID/Ecuador seeks implementing partners from the private sector and civil society. This includes private businesses, foundations, non-profit NGOs, and private educational institutions. U.S. Department of State — Indigenous People’s Finance Access Facility

The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for the Indigenous People’s Finance Access Facility (IPFAF). The purpose of this project is to support Indigenous Peoples’ increased access to results-based finance for the conservation, restoration, and improved management of forests. The project will support Indigenous Peoples’ in the Amazon basin, Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia with up to US$1,9 million. U.S. Department of State — Enabling Forest Investment

The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for “Enabling Forest Investment Development Facility (ForInvest).” The overall goal is to facilitate investment in natural climate solutions in developing countries, especially in high-deforestation areas, by developing investment pipelines and connecting those opportunities with potential investors. The project should encompass all three of the key geographies to Conserve Global Forests: the Amazon basin, Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia. A total of US$5.1 million will be made available. UNESCO — Creation of Geoparks

UNESCO and the Global Geoparks Network (GGN) make grants to support the creation of geoparks in Small Island Developing States. Geoparks are sites and landscapes of international geological significance that are managed with a holistic concept of protection, education and sustainable development. UNESCO offers tailor-made consultancy services specifically designed to support local teams to develop a UNESCO Geopark project. EU-LAC Interest Group — Science, Technology and Innovation

The EU-LAC Interest Group launches a Joint Call to enhance the bi-regional cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation. The aim of the call is to initiate sustainable and multilateral research cooperation between researchers from Europe, Latin-America and the Caribbean countries. Transnational consortia are invited to submit proposals related to six topics in the thematic fields of Global Challenges, Health, Biodiversity, and Energy. Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund — Scholarships for Higher Education 2022

Taiwan’s program of development assistance includes scholarships for university students in eligible developing countries to study in Taiwan. The program provides full scholarships for applicants from selected countries in the Asia-Pacific region, Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean region, Latin America, and certain other countries. Subject areas at Taiwan’s participating universities include tropical agriculture, aquaculture technology and management, environmental sustainable development, and others. Undergraduate students receive NT$12 thousand per month as an allowance, Masters students receive NT$15 thousand per month, and PhD students receive NT$17 thousand per month, plus travel, fees and other costs for the program.
