GSMA — Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation

GSMA Innovation Fund for Climate Resilience and Adaptation seeks to help accelerate the testing, adoption and scalability of digital innovations that enable the world’s most vulnerable populations to adapt to the negative impacts of climate change. GSMA aims to test innovations that can increase the capacity of low-income and vulnerable communities to adapt, and develop approaches or business models that can be scaled to build climate resilience and adaptation. Successful projects will receive an equity-free grant of between £100 thousand and £250 thousand to scale their innovation over a 15 to 18 month period. Start-ups, small and medium enterprises and social enterprises in Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean, Latin America and Eastern Europe are eligible to apply. Applications close on 09 January 2022. Prince Bernhard Nature Fund — Conservation of Endangered Species

The Prince Bernhard Nature Fund (PBNF) aims to save critically endangered flora and fauna in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It gives funding preference to organizations in these regions, sometimes in partnership with parties in Europe or North America. Projects have to focus on critically endangered species on the IUCN Red List. Grants are up to €20 thousand or US$20 thousand. The PBNF only supports registered non-profits and favors smaller grassroots organizations over international organizations. The next application deadline is 01 February 2022. Know more

Oceans & Lakes — Scholarships MSc in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management

Oceans & Lakes is an interuniversity master program that provides students with a strong fundamental and applied knowledge in the scientific research and management of marine and lacustrine systems. Through the Flemish Inter-University Council (VLIR-UOS), scholarships are provided for this 2-year master program in “Master of Science in Marine and Lacustrine Science and Management” (Oceans & Lakes). For this specific scholarship, eligibility extends to nationals from the VLIR-UOS partner countries (please refer to the call for a complete list of eligible countries). Climate Tracker — Energy Transition in Latin America

Climate Tracker, in partnership with Clean Energy Wire, offers 12 scholarships to journalists to cover investigations into the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean. The participant will be trained in the use of advanced media research tools and will address how the media covers the stories of energy and climate change in Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Journalists and researchers with experience in the media and investigations, under 35 years of age, are eligible to apply. The deadline to apply for this call is 10 November 2021. Link

Earth Journalism Network — Reporting on Illegal Fishing in Ecuador

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers scholarships to support the production of in-depth reports that report on illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in Ecuador. Only entries in Spanish from Ecuadorian journalists will be accepted. Nominations are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and to other specialized media professionals with experience in investigative reporting and a history of coverage of environmental issues. Ashoka — Fellowship Mexico, Central America, Caribbean

The Ashoka Fellowship selects social entrepreneurs with high impact and systems change projects in Mexico, Central American and Caribbean countries. Ashoka seeks projects with innovative strategies, methods, or new approaches to address opportunities and problems. Initiatives need to solve a problem at the root level and have the potential to generate geographically scaled impact. Applications have to be submitted by 16 October 2021. Ashoka Fellowship

PES Latam Alliance — Support for Social Entrepreneurs in Latin America

PES Latam Alliance supports social entrepreneurs in Latin America to accelerate their impact in the region. The Bridge for Billions program seeks social businesses with innovative solutions working to improve the lives of the most vulnerable. Selected social enterprises will be able to access up to US$50 thousand of seed capital, support through courses and events, training with alliance partners, and a community of entrepreneurs. The applicants must be a registered hybrid or for-profit business and must have been operating (selling product/service) for at least a year. United Nations Environment Programme — Pilot Projects for Efficient and Resilient Energy Systems

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) launches a call on digitalization for flexible and resilient energy systems. The initiative aims to step up global climate action and uptake of clean energy models. UNEP intends to support the implementation of pilot projects across Brazil, Colombia, Morocco, Tunisia, India, Indonesia and South Africa. Projects must cater to the increasingly urgent need to ensure efficiency and resilience of power systems to enable cost-effective clean energy transitions, mainly based on renewables. Applicants can submit a project for a maximum of €1.8 million. Candidates will need to be part of an international consortium that includes both public and private actors. Schneider Electric — Go Green Student Competition: South America

Schneider Electric seeks applications for the Go Green global student competition in South America. Students are invited to submit solutions to real-life case challenges within energy management or ideas for sustainable energy access. Top teams will be invited to attend the Virtual Global Finals to pitch their ideas. In addition, one all-female team from the semi-finals will win the Women in Business Award. Global winners will be awarded a €10 thousand prize. The deadline to submit energy ideas is 10 March 2022. Go Green South America

BRICS STI Framework Programme — Call for Research and Development Projects

The BRICS STI Framework Programme calls for proposals to promote research cooperation among partner institutions in Brazil, China, India, Russia, and South Africa. Project proposals should consist of partners in at least three BRICS countries for research on preventing and monitoring natural disasters; water resources and pollution management; new and renewable energy; and other themes.
