São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Climate Change — Training and Networking in Climate Change
The São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Climate Change will hold a 2-week training and networking session in July 2017 on the science of climate change. The Advanced School will focus on five themes, and it will be led by speakers from several countries. The School will accept about 100 graduate students and early-career scientists from Brazil and other countries. The Advanced School will be conducted in English. USAID’s regional office in Central America invites proposals to conserve biodiversity in targeted coastal-marine areas and associated upland ecosystems; to decrease degradation of forest and mangrove landscapes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase resilience to climate change; and to enhance climate-smart economic opportunities and sustainable use of natural resources (“biocommerce” ). Christensen Fund — Grants for Biodiversity and Cultural Diversity
The Christensen Fund makes grants to indigenous-led and community-based organizations for projects that combine biodiversity with cultural diversity. Pre-proposals are accepted for consideration in the following programs: African Rift Valley; Central Asia; Northwest Mexico; Melanesia; Global; and San Francisco Bay Area. Most grants are in the range of US$50 thousand to US$100 thousand for one or two years. The application period for pre-proposals is 01 August through 31 August, except for the Melanesia Program (01 September through 30 September). Link
Organization for Tropical Studies — Research Fellowship Program 2017
The OTS manages a research fellowship program to support field research in tropical biology and related fields. The program offers three types of awards: pilot awards for exploratory research; thesis research fellowships; and ECTS-GS fellowships. Most awards are restricted to three OTS field stations in Costa Rica. Exceptions are one annual fellowship for research at the Cocha Cashu field station in Peru, and the Hovore-Horn Entomology awards in any Latin American country. The Australia – APEC Women in Research Fellowship supports female researchers from developing APEC economies to work in collaboration with partners at Australian institutions. With funding provided through the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Trellis Fund makes small grants for horticultural projects in the following countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nepal, Rwanda, Senegal, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. The Rabo Foundation Employeesfund is a part of the Rabobank Group, a provider of financial services that operates on cooperative principles in over 40 countries. The Employeesfund supports small-scale sustainable projects in education and water supply. For water projects, the areas of interest include improved water supplies and facilities for drinking water; agricultural irrigation; information projects; and integrated water management. The Rainforest Biodiversity Group invites proposals for projects that contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in the Neotropics. The priority for 2017 is support for the San Juan – La Selva Biological Corridor in Costa Rica. Eligibility for funding extends to graduate students and non-profit organizations. Funding up to US$1,500 may be used for scientific research, environmental education, sustainable economic development, or other conservation activities that demonstrate benefit to the conservation of wildlife or their habitat.
