With funding provided through the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Trellis Fund makes small grants for horticultural projects in the following countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nepal, Rwanda, Senegal, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. The maximum funding is US$4 thousand per project. Successful applicants in these countries will be paired with U.S. graduate students that have relevant technical expertise. The Rabo Foundation Employeesfund is a part of the Rabobank Group, a provider of financial services that operates on cooperative principles in over 40 countries. The Employeesfund supports small-scale sustainable projects in education and water supply. For water projects, the areas of interest include improved water supplies and facilities for drinking water; agricultural irrigation; information projects; and integrated water management. Applications are welcomed from organizations that bank with Rabobank, and from Rabobank employees, in the Rabobank focus countries. The maximum grant request is €15 thousand. The Rainforest Biodiversity Group invites proposals for projects that contribute to the conservation of biodiversity in the Neotropics. The priority for 2017 is support for the San Juan – La Selva Biological Corridor in Costa Rica. Eligibility for funding extends to graduate students and non-profit organizations. Funding up to US$1,500 may be used for scientific research, environmental education, sustainable economic development, or other conservation activities that demonstrate benefit to the conservation of wildlife or their habitat. U.S. Agency for International Development — Fomenting Agriculture Incomes and Resilience in Guatemala
USAID announces FAIR (“Fomenting Agriculture Incomes and Resilience”) as a five-year program to reduce poverty and chronic malnutrition by increasing agricultural incomes and improving resilience of small farmers and their families in five departments of Guatemala’s Western Highlands. Global Affairs Canada — Agri-Food Value Chains and Adaptation to Climate Change in Haiti
The Government of Canada calls for proposals to promote strengthened agri-food value chains and adaptation to climate change in Haiti. Areas that were severely affected by Hurricane Matthew require increased support to restore agricultural production capacity and infrastructure. Projects should focus on two or three of the departments of Artibonite, Sud, and Grand-Anse. Eligibility for funding extends to Canadian and non-Canadian organizations, including private-sector organizations. Grants will range from $3 million to $15 million. São Paulo Research Foundation — Brazil/USA Research in Biodiversity 2017
The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) invite researchers to submit 5-year projects for scientific cooperation through their programs, BIOTA and Dimensions of Biodiversity. Research projects must integrate the three dimensions of biodiversity: genetic, phylogenetic, and functional. Researchers associated with public or private higher education or research institutions in the State of São Paulo submit their proposals to FAPESP. U.S. researchers submit to NSF. With support by the Newton Fund, Innovate UK invites businesses to work with Brazilian partners on innovative urban development solutions in Brazil. Earth Journalism Network — Biodiversity Media Grant
The Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers the Biodiversity Media Grant to support journalism networks and media organizations throughout the world in increasing the capacity of media to cover critical issues of conservation and biodiversity. EJN is especially interested in projects that focus on conservation in high-biodiversity regions of the world such as the Amazon, Central Africa, and Southeast Asia. Preference will be given to applications from or affiliated with professional journalists, media organizations, journalism schools, and the like. EJN will also consider applications by NGOs or environmental groups looking to build the capacity of journalists to cover conservation issues. The average grant will be about US$10 thousand.
