OFRF offers funding for research on organic farming and food systems and the dissemination of these research results to organic farmers and agricultural and research communities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Priorities are research on small grain production; soil health; social sciences related to adoption of organic systems; and organic animal production. Belgium’s University Commission for Development — Scholarships and Training Grants 2017-2018
The French-language universities of Belgium award 150 scholarships and about 70 training grants each year in the ARES program to applicants from developing countries. Subjects include environmental management and several others. Eligibility requirements are defined by age, previous education, and nationality. The eligible countries are Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cuba, Dem Rep Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia (only for courses in English), Haiti, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, and Vietnam. Principle 10 — Grants to Promote Environmental Justice in Latin America
Principle 10 of the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development seeks to ensure that every person has access to information, can participate in the decision-making process, and has access to justice in environmental matters. The Small Sub-Grants Fund offers up to US$2 thousand to registered nonprofit NGOs in Latin America and the Caribbean for actions that address environmental injustice and related violations of human rights. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Conservation in Central America 2017
The USFWS “Wildlife Without Borders” includes a regional program for Central America. The program seeks to conserve priority species and ecosystems across landscapes that have high value for biodiversity in the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, while simultaneously benefiting local communities. The announcement identifies the geographic and thematic priorities. Applications can be accepted from both U.S. and non-U.S. organizations. The deadline for applications is 16 December 2016. Link
American Ornithologists Union — Research Grants in Ornithology 2017
The AOU makes grants up to US$2,500 in several areas of ornithological research. Applicants are university and post-doctoral students who are members of the AOU, and individuals without access to funds from major granting agencies. The Wetmore Memorial Fund supports research in avian systematics, paleo-ornithology, biogeography, and especially neotropical biology — and it encourages Latin American students to apply. European Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) — Enterprises in e-Agriculture
“Pitch AgriHack!” is sponsored by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU, in partnership with other organizations. The aim is to help young start-ups in e-agriculture develop business services. The programme is open to start-ups whose owners are ages 18 to 35, and who have a prototype or operating mobile application or ICT service for agriculture in any of the ACP (Africa, Caribbean, and Pacific) countries. There will be a selection to determine which start-ups and teams will attend a boot camp and pitching event in Kenya. Winners for proof of concept will receive grants up to €7.5 thousand; winners for scaling-up will receive grants up to €15 thousand. International Tree Foundation — Sustainable Community Forestry Programme
The International Tree Foundation makes grants through its Sustainable Community Forestry Programme to conserve and restore local forest resources and associated biodiversity; improve local livelihoods; and increase resilience to climate change. ITF welcomes applications for community tree projects in Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. The applying organization must be a registered NGO in the country where the project will take place. USAID will fund projects in support of its broad objectives under its program for Eastern and Southern Caribbean Science, Technology, Innovations, and Partnerships. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Program for Mexico 2016
In “Wildlife Without Borders, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) partners with Mexico’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) to invite projects that build Mexico’s capacity for biodiversity conservation. Grants should focus on projects that improve the capacities of Mexican government agencies and local communities to protect wildlife from illegal trafficking and over-exploitation. Applications are invited from government agencies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, private-sector entities, and individuals. The maximum grant is US$500 thousand for two years.
