The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks journalists to attend a three-day marine science workshop in the Maldives (24-26 June 2020). This opportunity is open to journalists from specific countries around the Indian Ocean to gain a better understanding of marine issues and how to report on them. The workshop will be held in English, therefore, participants must be able to understand and communicate in English. EJN will pay for travel, accommodation and meals of selected participants. U.S. Agency for International Development — Save Forests and Biodiversity in the Philippines
USAID aims to combat threats to biodiversity caused by habitat loss and degradation due to deforestation, mining and marine ecosystem degradation, and overexploitation in the Philippines. Therefore, USAID seeks projects and activities to be implemented in areas of biological significance and/or land areas of high climate change mitigation potential. The total estimated budget under this call is US$22 million. USAID intends to make two to three awards. UK’s Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and Singapore’s National Research Foundation (NRF) invite proposals for collaborative research projects to understand the impact of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems in Southeast Asia. Applicants may request up to S$1.25 million from NRF and up to £700 thousand from NERC. Applications are sought from teams comprising researchers from Singapore, the UK and low- and middle-income countries in Southeast Asia. The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) and the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT) invite Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) for small grants (up to €50 thousand) for projects that support the conservation of plants or the sustainable management of water catchments in the wider Prespa area. Eligibility extends to non-governmental organizations, scientific institutions and academic institutions legally registered in Albania or North Macedonia. European Marine Board — Young Ambassador Programme
The European Marine Board (EMB) seeks creative young ambassadors that are willing to play a role in advocating for EMB and promoting the role and relevance of marine science. EMB ambassadors will participate in various activities, including EMB Plenary meetings and external events or workshops. The Ambassador will receive a total grant of €2 thousand and a travel grant up to a total amount of €3 for meeting and events. Ambassadors should commit up to 120 hours per year for a period of 2 years. Any PhD or postdoc student with experience in marine-based research is welcome to apply. Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas Network — MPA Co-Management Approaches
MedPAN launches a new call for small projects to support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean. This call targets co-management approaches for Marine Protected Areas. The call is only open to Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon, Turkey, and Albania. MedPAN’s contribution will be €20 thousand per project (matching contributions of 25 % are required). Blue Action Fund — Adaptation to Climate Change in the Western Indian Ocean
The Blue Action Fund announces a call for grant proposals focusing on ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA) to climate change in the Western Indian Ocean. Grants are made to NGOs with projects that focus on protecting Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) and supporting sustainable livelihoods in coastal communities. The Fund aims to support projects protecting and restoring adaptation-relevant coastal ecosystems to reduce climate change-related risks for vulnerable coastal communities. The fund will allocate €2-5 million per project. Applicants are expected to provide substantial co-funding for the project.
