International Union for Conservation of Nature — Red List of Ecosystems Photo Contest

IUCN announces the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems Photo Contest – My Place in Nature. The contest is open to all photographers and aspiring photographers worldwide. Participants are invited to share their story on ecosystems and show their very own place in nature. Winners will be announced on IUCN Red List of Ecosystems social media and exhibited at the IUCN World Conservation Congress. Grassroots Justice Prize — Legal Empowerment for Communities

The Grassroots Justice Prize recognizes grassroots institutions across the globe that are working to put the power of law into people’s hands. Three awards, each of US$10 thousand, are available to non-profit organizations, social enterprises, and public institutions that focus on legal empowerment to tackle poverty, injustice, or other social problems. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service — Caribbean Regional Program

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service provides financial assistance to strategic projects that conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats. The Caribbean Regional Program funds projects to reduce the underlying threats to coastal and marine biodiversity, to conserve the coastal and marine flora and fauna, and to maximize conservation impact by developing strategic partnerships with key stakeholders on the local, national, regional and international levels. Funding for individual projects is between US$25 thousand and US$100 thousand. Eligibility for grants extends to non-profit organizations and universities. National Geographic Society — Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its program “Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution” from all around the world. The aim is to explore solutions to reduce marine plastic pollution (including behavior change). Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents or citizens of the country of fieldwork as well as to projects with strong local capacity development components. Applicants may request up to US$100 thousand, though grants are typically funded for less than US$30 thousand. The current grant cycle closes 10 April 2019. Click here

Franklin Institute — Bower Award for Science Achievement 2020

The Bower Award is made to individuals who have made significant contributions to understanding and quantifying perturbations of natural systems within the biosphere, atmosphere, or hydrosphere in the age of the Anthropocene. The award is a 14k gold medal and a cash prize of US$250 thousand. The competition is open internationally. Self-nominations are accepted. University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland — MENA Young Scientists Mobility Grants

The “young scientists’ mobility grant” aims to develop new research partnerships and collaborations between Switzerland and MENA countries. Priority countries under this call are: Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Tunisia, and the United Arab Emirates. Mobility grants can be awarded to young scientists who hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree (no PhD) and have less than 6 years of professional research experience. The call is open for activities and research visits in all scientific disciplines and fields of research. The applicant’s mobility visit should have a minimum duration of 4 weeks and with a maximum of CHF5 thousand per grant. (Note: The application form must be completed by the Swiss main applicant). Government of India — Australia-India Strategic Research Fund

The Government of India invites research projects to apply to the Strategic Research Fund (AISRF). Priority areas for collaborative research projects are energy and storage (batteries) and marine science. Eligible organizations include universities, research laboratories, and non-profit organizations.The Indian Government will sponsor the direct costs for international airfares, living expenses, manpower-salaries and consumables. São Paulo School of Advanced Science — Workshop: Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

The São Paulo School of Advanced Science on Scenarios and Modelling on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services to Support Human Well-Being (SPSAS Scenarios) will hold a 2-week training and networking session in July 2019 on scenarios and modeling in biodiversity and ecosystem services, and its relation to human wellbeing. The Advanced School will be led by speakers from several countries. Approximately 100 applicants, 50 from Brazil and 50 from other countries will be selected to participate in the Advanced School. Inter-Research Science Center — Ecology Prize 2019

The International Ecology Institute in Germany annually selects top performers worldwide in the field of ecology for the Ecology Institute Prize and the IRPE Prize. The winner of the Ecology Institute Prize will be awarded €6 thousand; the winner of the IRPE Prize will receive €3 thousand. United States Agency for International Development — Capacity Development Workshop: Proposal Writing

Through its Local Capacity for Local Solutions program, USAID offers 15 scholarships to NGO leaders/managers to attend a Capacity Development Workshop on proposal writing. The participants must work in the focal areas identified (environment, HIV/AIDS, youth/citizen security, LGBTI) and be based in Trinidad and Tobago.
