The Australia – APEC Women in Research Fellowship supports female researchers from developing APEC economies to work in collaboration with partners at Australian institutions. Past fellows include several in subjects such as water resources, climate change, marine microbiology, and others related to environment. UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council — UK-China Offshore Renewables Energy
This is the second of three calls planned under the “UK-China Joint Programme in Low-Carbon Innovation.” The call defines five areas related to offshore renewable energy for joint research participation by UK and Chinese scientists and engineers. UK researchers will be funded with five awards in the order of up to £800 thousand per award over three years. Institute for Pacific Coral Reefs — Coral Reef Research in French Polynesia 2017
The IRCP offers four grants to young scientists for applied or fundamental research on coral reefs in French Polynesia. The program invites applications from PhD and post-doctoral applicants of French and other nationalities, who are less than age 35. IRCP will select at least one candidate from the South Pacific Island States. Grants are €4,500 for up to one year to cover travel expenses, accommodation, and research costs at the Criobe research station. The application deadline is 30 January 2017. Link
French Institute for Development Research — Support for International Research Teams 2017
The IRD announces funding to support multidisciplinary international teams (laboratoires mixtes internationaux, LMI) to undertake research that corresponds to IRD’s thematic priorities. These priorities include agronomy and biodiversity; bio-invasions and climate change; sustainable urban development; the ocean-climate interface; micro-biomes in agro-ecosystems; management of water resources; coastal and marine management; and others. Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — Travel Grants to Participate in 10th Symposium
The Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), in partnership with collaborating institutions in Tanzania, announces the 10th WIOMSA Scientific Symposium to be held in Dar es Salaam in October-November 2017. Abstracts are invited on any topic related to the coastal and marine environment of the West Indian Ocean. WIOMSA will provide a limited number of travel grants to regional participants whose abstracts have been accepted, with priority for students. The deadline to submit abstracts is 28 April 2017. U.S. Department of State — Marine Protected Areas and Ocean Conservation
The U.S. Department of State will fund projects in marine protected areas and reduced nutrient pollution affecting coastal waters. Grants in Category 1 will strengthen compliance capacity for marine protected areas in the Bahamas, Belize, Honduras, and Panama. Grants in Category 2 will fund projects to more effectively manage marine protected areas in Comoros, Djibouti, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Somalia, and Tanzania. Grants in Category 3 will aim to reduce nutrient pollution in waterways, coastal waters, and the ocean.
