Earth Journalism Network — Media Grants to Strengthen Infrastructure Reporting in Southeast Asia

Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers organizational grants averaging US$20 thousand to support media and journalism activities to strengthen reporting on infrastructure development and public engagement in infrastructure debates. Media outlets and CSOs in Southeast Asia (Brunei, Myanmar, Cambodia, Timor-Leste, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam) are invited to apply. Goethe-Institut Bangkok — Science Film Festival

The Goethe-Institut Bangkok invites submissions to its annual Science Film Festival. The Film Festival is open to all formats as well as all genres of films on science, technology, and the environment. The festival makes six awards with a cash prize of €1,000 each. The Science Film Festival is open to worldwide submissions from broadcasters, producers, filmmakers, film students, researchers, scientific organizations, NGOs, public organizations, and online channels. Earth Journalism Network — Reporting on Fisheries in Central America

Earth Journalism Network (EJN) holds a workshop on fisheries journalism in Belize (April 2024) to equip journalists with the skills necessary to report on the protection and sustainable management of fisheries in the Mesoamerican Reef region. EJN will cover airfare for journalists selected from Honduras, Mexico, and Guatemala. All participating journalists will receive a stipend for food and other incidental expenses. Gabo Foundation — Journalistic Research Scholarships

The Gabo Foundation and the Avina Foundation provide 6 scholarships for journalistic production to strengthen journalistic research on the environment, sustainability, and science in Latin America. The foundations offer 3 collaborative coverage scholarships of US$3000 each, and 3 individual coverage scholarships of US$1000 each. Photographers Without Borders — Revolutionary Storyteller Grant

The Revolutionary Storyteller Grant supports revolutionary storytellers across all fields. Five recipients will be awarded US$5,000 to support the creation of an impactful photography project, a video, and a community exhibition. UNESCO — Media Development Opportunity

UNESCO’s International Program for the Development of Communication allows organizations to secure support for their initiatives. Project proposals are encouraged to leverage UNESCO resources, particularly journalism education handbooks. Projects should fall within a budget range of US$10 thousand to US$35 thousand. Earth Journalism Network — Infrastructure Reporting in Lower Mekong

The Journalist Fellowship for Infrastructure Reporting in Lower Mekong equips mid-career journalists with training, mentoring, and story grants to report on infrastructural development and its impacts on the environment and human rights. EJN will select 15 journalists who will take part in a series of online training sessions and a two-day in-person workshop in March 2024. EJN will cover the cost of travel, accommodation, and meals of selected participants. Participants who successfully complete the training will be eligible to apply to receive story grants (US$2000 each). University of Rhode Island — Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists

The University of Rhode Island’s Metcalf Institute for Marine & Environmental Reporting accepts applications for its annual Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists. The workshop provides journalists with access to leading scientists and policymakers and a chance to gain a deeper understanding of science-based stories on natural, social, and engineering research guiding an equitable transition to clean energy. Free Press Unlimited — Climate Change Fellowship Program

Free Press Unlimited announces two Climate Change Fellowship Programs for journalists in the Middle East and North Africa. The Fellowship Programs will enable 20 fellows to tell a better climate story and inform their audience by creating stories that go beyond highlighting the problem and come with constructive solutions. The fellowship consists of training and individual coaching. All the fellows will receive financial support of €500. Eligible individuals must be journalists or a graduate in journalism operating in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, or Tunisia. Earth Journalism Network — Story Grants for Indigenous Environmental Journalists

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers reporting grants to Indigenous journalists to support the production of in-depth environmental stories that call attention to climate justice, biodiversity, sustainable ecosystems, and other issues related to the rights and well-being of Indigenous peoples and communities. ENJ expects to award between 8-9 grants with an average budget of US$1,400 each. Applicants must self-identify as Indigenous or belonging to a tribe. Applicants can be from any country in the world.
