The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers journalists from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda reporting grants of up to US$2 thousand to produce investigative stories about illegal wildlife trade and environmental crime in East Africa. Grants are open to professional journalists and media organizations and can be used to produce stories in any of the following mediums: print, television, radio or online. Logan Nonfiction Program — Workshop for Environmental Filmmakers and Journalists
The Logan Nonfiction Program invites applications from writers, documentary filmmakers, photographers, and multimedia producers from all around the world to participate in a 10-week workshop at the Carey Institute for Global Good. The fellowship combines virtual and in-person programming in two classes per year of 10-12 fellows per class. Applications are accepted from professional journalists and filmmakers working on topics representing socially relevant political, health, environmental, human rights, and justice topics. Climate Tracker — Energy Transition in Latin America
Climate Tracker, in partnership with Clean Energy Wire, offers 12 scholarships to journalists to cover investigations into the energy transition in Latin America and the Caribbean. The participant will be trained in the use of advanced media research tools and will address how the media covers the stories of energy and climate change in Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Earth Journalism Network — Reporting on Illegal Fishing in Ecuador
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers scholarships to support the production of in-depth reports that report on illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing in Ecuador. Only entries in Spanish from Ecuadorian journalists will be accepted. Nominations are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and to other specialized media professionals with experience in investigative reporting and a history of coverage of environmental issues. The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) is an international photography award. The main theme of this year’s award is “Nature.” The grant prize is US$120 thousand, including smaller prizes of up to US$20 thousand in five different categories. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations — Photo Contest on Salt-Affected Soils
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) launches a Photo Contest on Salt-Affected Soils. Its purpose is to offer participants the opportunity to share their testimonies on the effects of soil salinity and sodification while raising awareness about the dangers posed by these soil threats. Each participant can submit up to five entries. Entrants must own the copyright and must have taken the photographs themselves. Aspen Institute — New Voices Fellowship 2022
The New Voices Fellowship is a year-long program that provides intensive media and advocacy training for top development professionals in the developing world. The Aspen Institute aims to select 15-20 Fellows who will write opinion articles, participate in interviews with local and international media, and speak at international conferences. Subject areas of interest include food security, climate change, and other themes. For the 2022 class, Aspen will give special consideration to Fellows whose work focuses on COVID-19 relief, vaccine development, and pandemic resiliency. European Union — Youth Awards for Climate Storytelling
The EU GCCA+ Youth Awards support young journalists, writers and photographers to tell powerful climate stories around the world. Individuals between 18 and 30 years can participate with a video or a story with photos about climate change cooperation, preferably related to an EU-funded project in their country.
