The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks journalists for a 10-day media workshop in Bangladesh focused on climate change justice and resilience (special focus on women and youth). The workshop provides on-the-ground experience and an opportunity for journalists to interact with experts and to participate in a field trip that will enable them to report on how climate change is impacting coastal communities. Global Landscapes Forum — Call for African Filmmakers
The Youth in Landscapes Initiative invites filmmakers between 18 and 35 years, to create a short film that showcases the power and the potential of youth-led actions and innovations in improving landscape management in communities in Ghana. Selected filmmakers will join the Youth in Landscape Camp being held near Accra (October 2019). The film must be between three and six minutes and can be of any genre or creative narrative. Blue Earth supports photography projects that educate the public about threatened cultures, endangered environments, and other social concerns through fiscal sponsorship. International Center for Journalists — Workshop for Latin American Journalists
The Douglas Tweedale Memorial Fellowship will be awarded to two Latin American journalists who seek to improve their environmental reporting skills. The two-week professional program will take place in Lima (Peru). Participants will have appointments with area investigative journalists, environmental experts, and short embeds with media outlets specializing in environmental coverage. Earth Journalism Network — Mesoamerican Reef Story Grants
The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers grants to journalists in Central America to support in-depth and investigative reporting on environmental issues related to the Mesoamerican Reef in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras. EJN expects to award around six grants ranging from US$500 to US$1,000 depending on the proposal and reporting format. Eligibility extends to early-career and mid-level journalists (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with proven track record of reporting on the effects of climate change and environmental degradation. Wildlife Photo — Wildlife Photography Contest 2019
The wildlife photography contest series for 2019 is open. Wildlife Photo will award prizes worth US$18 thousand in total (including photography trips and equipment). There are three categories for submission: Wildlife Portraits; Habitats & Landscapes; and Animal Behaviour. A selection of winners and highly-commended images will be exhibited on an outdoor screen in New York City. The photo contest series is accepting entries until 31 January 2020. Frida — Climate and Environmental Justice Media Fellowship
In partnership with OpenGlobalRights, FRIDA provides a 5-month training program to young feminists on climate and environmental justice activism and digital journalism. Women between ages of 18 and 30 based anywhere in Sub Saharan Africa, Asia, the MENA region, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Eastern Europe are eligible to apply. Fellows will receive mentorship and are expected to dedicate 4-5 hours per week (total of 15-20 hours per month) from August to December 2019. Applications are submitted through a short Google form. U.S. Department of State — Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellowship 2020-2021
The Fulbright-National Geographic Storytelling Fellowship provides opportunities for an academic year of international travel and storytelling in up to three countries on a globally significant theme. For the 2020-21 competition, the Fellowship will accept proposals to undertake an in-depth examination of a globally relevant issue (possibly within the thematic areas of the Terra Viva Grant Directory). In addition to financial support, participants will receive training in professional storytelling. Eligibility for the fellowships is limited to U.S. citizens. The Thomson Reuters Foundation seeks participants for a four-day workshop on reporting land rights in New Delhi, India (6-9 August 2019).
