Earth Journalism Network — Media Workshop on Climate Change Reporting

Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks applications from journalists to take part in a media workshop on climate change reporting in the Bay of Bengal. The workshop will focus on climate change in the region, with a focus on how at-risk communities are responding to environmental pressures. EJN will pay for travel, accommodation and meal costs of selected participants. Journalists from print, web, radio and television are eligible. National Geographic Society — Science Communication

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals addressing environmental issues by communicating science. The NGS seeks proposals from around the world that advance the science of nature communication by systematically testing visual communication and education methods. The call is intended for visual artists, photographers, and videographers who aim to more effectively create and use images or video to overcome apathy towards species and ecosystems. Typical proposal requests should be less than US$30 thousand, but applicants may request up to US$50 thousand. The current grant cycle closes 10 April 2019. Details here

National Geographic Society — Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution

The National Geographic Society seeks proposals for its program “Reducing Marine Plastic Pollution” from all around the world. The aim is to explore solutions to reduce marine plastic pollution (including behavior change). Projects may be focused around conservation, education, research, storytelling, or technology. Preference will be given to applicants who are residents or citizens of the country of fieldwork as well as to projects with strong local capacity development components. The National Geographic Society seeks research, conservation, and storytelling proposals to advance understanding of environmental and societal changes measured in the Himalayas. NatGeo is especially interested in projects that directly monitor or examine changing temperatures, ice volume or extent, and water pathways, or that examine impacts on at-risk downstream populations. Amigos da Jubarte — Photography and Arts Contest

The Amigos da Jubarte Project is a non-profit initiative focusing on humpback whale conservation and sustainable tourism for habitat protection in Espírito Santo, Brazil. The Project invites submissions for its first photography contest entitled “Where is the Whale?”. Categories are: Whales, Creatures of the Sea, The Ocean, Making Of, Videos, and Illustrations and Arts. The winners of each category will receive non-cash awards. Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition — Nigeria Egg Evaluation for Better Nutrition

GAIN will implement an experiment to evaluate how a demand creation approach which changes the desirability of a food can be applied to improve the quality of diets in low-income households. For that reason, GAIN seeks a research partner to co-design and independently conduct an impact evaluation over 2 years. International Center for Journalists — Eurasia Media Innovation Challenge

The Eurasia Media Innovation Challenge supports projects that produce and distribute high-quality content to combat biased or false information. This includes stories and initiatives about global health or climate change. The program offers grants of between US$5 thousand and US$100 thousand to applicants proposing innovative projects to provide information to Russian-speaking populations in Eurasia. The EJN makes media grants to strengthen the capacity of local and regional organizations to produce more high-quality stories that cover climate change, the environment and natural resource-management issues. This grant program accepts applications from media organizations, civil society organizations and academic institutions throughout Asia and the Pacific. UNDP and UNESCO — Writing Competition for Young Journalists

UNDP and UNESCO jointly launch the “IATI Research Challenge for Journalists” – a research and writing competition for journalists around the world aged between 15 and 25. Journalists should investigate how their country (or a country of their choice) is progressing towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals and explore how funds for development are being utilised.
