World Oceans Day — Become a Young Ocean Leader

The World Oceans Day Youth Advisory Council needs 15 new young ocean leaders from around the world. The Council works closely with The Ocean Project and its global partner network to help shape the development of World Oceans Day. Members will develop projects and help to shape the World Oceans Day. Applicants should be between the ages of 16 and 22, able to make a two-year commitment (including approximately 10 hours per month to Council activities). Applications are due by 03 October 2018. Climate Tracker — Writing Competition on Climate Change

Climate Tracker seeks young writers from around the world who want to make a big impact in their countries by writing about the effects of meat consumption on climate change. The 2 best writers will get a chance to attend the Convention on Biological Diversity negotiations in Egypt (November 2018). Participants have to write an article about effects of meat consumption on climate change and what needs to change in their country and publish the article in the media, e.g. newspaper, magazine, online news site, etc. To participate, articles have to be submitted by 12 October 2018. Belgium’s University Commission for Development — Student Outreach Projects 2019

The student outreach program offers students in the Wallonia region of Belgium the opportunity to raise awareness and organize activities related to development aid issues. The ARES program offers financial support between € 1,500 – 4,500 per outreach project. Past projects include the organization of an ‘awareness day around the theme of agribusiness’ and a ‘sensitization day for graduates on socio-environmental conflicts and management of natural resources in Peru’. Consultative Group to Assist the Poor — Picturing Financial Inclusion in Africa

Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP) launches its 13th Annual Photos and Videos Contest 2018. The contest seeks striking photographs and short videos that tell the story of how financial services empower poor people and communities in Africa. The grand winner receives a US$ 2,000 gift certificate for photography or video equipment. The 2018 CGAP Photo Contest is open to all photographers and videographers. Photographs and short videos have to be submitted by 14 December 2018. Share your stories

Blue Earth Alliance — Photography Projects

Blue Earth sponsors photography projects that educate the public about threatened cultures, endangered environments, and other social concerns. Blue Earth provides assistance with fundraising, publishing, and publicity. However, it does not make direct grants to sponsored projects. The next deadline for proposals is 20 January 2019. KR Foundation — Reducing Fossil Fuels

The KR Foundation makes grants for environmental communications and advocacy, with a special focus on reducing investment and consumption of fossil fuels. The Foundation aims to address root causes of climate change and environmental degradation, and safeguard the planetary boundaries. Grants are to charitable nonprofit organizations. The amount of funding per project typically ranges from DKK 2-5 million for projects of up to approx. 3 years. The next deadline for letters of inquiry is 09 January 2019. Disaster Risk Reduction Network of Africa Journalists — DIRAJ Media Awards

DIRAJ invites applications from journalists located in Africa and the Arab States for the first Media Awards on disaster risk prevention, reduction and recovery. This award is open for accredited Journalists working in television, radio, print media and verified news websites. Winners will receive a cash award and mentorship. International Center for Journalists — Global Climate Reporting Program 2018

The ICFJ accepts applications for the Global Climate Reporting Program. Participants will learn from global experts about how extreme weather and climate affect human health and safety and natural ecosystems, and produce stories on these critical topics. Participants will travel to San Francisco in September to attend the 2018 Global Climate Action Summit. Airfare, lodging and meals during the program will be covered by the organizers. International Women’s Media Foundation — African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative

The IWMF created the African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative (AGLRI) to provide training and support for female in-country journalists from the Central African Republic, Congo, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. The aim is to provide necessary funding to independent journalists to cover under-reported issues including issues of empowerment, democracy, food security, and conservation efforts. Grants will be awarded to cover reporting-related costs, including travel, and average between US$10 thousand to US$15 thousand. Applications are accepted until 21 August 2018. Interested?

Earth Journalism Network — Bay of Bengal Story Grants

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) offers Story Grants to support the production of in-depth stories on climate and environmental change in the Bay of Bengal region. Particular attention should be given to the adaptation needs, challenges, efforts and success stories of vulnerable and marginalized communities, women and youth. Eligibility extends to professional journalists and other expert media practitioners. Most grants will range from US$1 thousand to US$2 thousand. The application deadline is 13 August 2018.
