Composting Council Research and Education Foundation — Poster Contest

The International Compost Awareness Week Committee invites submissions for its annual poster contest. This year’s theme is “Composting in My Community”. The winning poster will serve as the promotional piece of the 2025 International Compost Awareness Week and the winner will receive US$500. Pulitzer Center — Local Letters for Global Change

Local Letters for Global Change is a Pulitzer Center writing contest for students. Students are encouraged to write a letter to a local elected representative that explains the global issue they want them to prioritize (e.g., Climate and Environment), shows how it connects to their local community and proposes a solution. The Pulitzer Center welcomes entries from all current K-12 students across the globe. First-place winners will receive US$300 to support global community engagement. Educators working with groups of 50 or more students can also schedule a free, virtual workshop facilitated by a member of the Pulitzer Center Education team. Africa Soft Power Project — Climate Change Photo Essay Prize

The Climate Change Photo Essay is open to young people aged 18 to 30 from Africa and its diaspora. Entrants are asked to submit a photo essay of three to five photographs that tell a cohesive story and address climate change in their communities. Winners will have their work shown at a curated exhibition. The prize is open for entries until 20 September 2024. Photo Essay Prize

Royal Entomological Society — Insect Photography Competition

The Royal Entomological Society Insect Photography competition is open to all amateur photographers. Photographs entered for the Competition should feature an insect (or group of insects) occurring naturally in the situation in which it is photographed. The subject can be of any life stage, from egg through nymph, larva, or pupa to adult, and can be an insect from anywhere in the world. Prizes range from £250 to £750. Earth Journalism Network — Mediterranean Media Initiative Story Grants

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) supports the production of in-depth stories covering current and emerging marine issues in the Mediterranean. EJN offers up to 10 story grants with a budget of up to €1,000 each for this round of story grants to support reporting on illegal fishing and the biodiversity crisis in the Mediterranean region, as well as solutions to marine issues. Applicants can be from any country that borders the Mediterranean Sea.  Countries include Algeria; Albania; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Croatia; Cyprus; Egypt; France; Gibraltar (British Overseas Territory); Greece; Italy; Israel; Lebanon; Libya; Malta; Monaco; Montenegro; Morocco; Palestine; Slovenia; Spain; Syria; Tunisia; Türkiye. Applications are open to journalists working in any medium (online, print, television, radio) and other expert media practitioners with professional reporting experience. Magmatic School of Environmental Journalism — Environmental Reporting

Applications are open for the first edition of the Magmatic School of Environmental Journalism (October 2024 to February 2025). Early-career journalists based in southern Europe will be selected to participate in the program. Agenda Propria — Course on Indigenous Journalism

Agenda Propria offers a virtual course to help Indigenous and non-indigenous journalists around the world understand journalism from the perspective of indigenous peoples and to produce better reports. The course is aimed at communicators, journalists, storytellers, and journalism students from anywhere in the world. Participants receive a certificate of completion. Earth Journalism Network — Virtual Reporting Fellowships

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) announces two virtual fellowship programs that will support journalists from Africa and Latin America to cover the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Fellows fellows will receive training, mentorship, and other support to facilitate remote reporting on these important events. All fellows will also receive a communications stipend of US$100 to ensure that they have consistent access to the virtual activities of the fellowship. To be eligible for the fellowship, the applicant must be a professional journalist from or representing an established media house. The application deadline is 15 August 2024. Earth Journalism Network — Grants for Video Content Production

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) seeks to boost video content production and distribution of information to build awareness about renewable energy in all states of India. To improve public awareness about the country’s efforts to decarbonize and scale its renewable energy capacity, EJN is providing fellowships for the production of video content. EJN will provide remuneration and mentorship to each selected applicant. The budget should cover reporting and production costs amounting to a maximum of INR 2.75 lakhs for a video of around 8 minutes in length. Proposals from all states in India are eligible. African Plant Nutrition Institute — Plant Nutrition Outreach Fellowship

The African Plant Nutrition Institute (APNI) awards US$5,000 to African scientists to support education, training, and communication programs relevant to improving the use and efficiency of plant nutrients in African agroecosystems. Projects must focus on improved outreach or implementation of appropriate soil fertility management in agricultural systems. Eligibility extends to scientists, extension specialists, or educators working at an African university, nonprofit organization, or in the private sector.
