Fondation Carmignac — Photojournalism Award 2024

The 15th edition of the Carmignac Photojournalism Award is dedicated to Southeast Asia and the violations of human and environmental rights caused by illegal fishing and overfishing. The laureates receive a €50 thousand grant to carry out a 9-month field report with the support of the Fondation Carmignac. The Award is open to all photographers, of all nationalities. Earth Journalism Network — Story Grants Asia Pacific

The Erath Journalism Network (EJN) offers story grants to women journalists and those identifying as gender and sexual minorities in the Asia-Pacific region to produce in-depth reports on the gendered impacts of the environmental and climate crises. EJN plans to issue 20-25 grants of up to US$2000 each. The Networks welcomes We welcome pitches to report on women- and minority-led initiatives and actions that demonstrate the resilience of these vulnerable groups and their role as environmental stewards. Global Landscapes Forum — African Youth Storytelling Contest

The Global Landscapes Forum hosts a storytelling contest for young Africans. The story should revolve around the key themes of a thriving Africa, including but not limited to food sovereignty, biodiverse landscapes, ecosystem restoration, and climate justice, among others. The three best stories will receive prizes of €500, €300 and €200 respectively. The contest is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 35 born and/or currently living in Africa. World Photography Organization — Sony World Photography Awards

The Sony World Photography Awards, one of the world’s leading photography competitions, recognizes the best single images from across 10 diverse categories, including ‘Landscape’ and ‘Natural World & Wildlife’. The overall winner in the Open Competition will receive US$5 thousand plus photography equipment. The closing date for entries is 03 January 2025. Know more

European Geosciences Union — Science Journalism Fellowship

The European Geosciences Union (EGU) accepts applications for the Science Journalism Fellowship competition. The fellowships enable journalists to report, in any European language, on ongoing research in the Earth, planetary or space sciences. Pacific Community — Photo Contest

The Pacific Community (SPC) launches a photo contest. Submissions must illustrate climate change, marine environments, fisheries, and/or aquaculture in the Pacific Islands region. SPC invites residents of the Pacific Islands region to submit entries. The first prize is US$1,000 worth of photography equipment. Submissions are due on 31 May 2024. Know more

Earth Journalism Network — Media Partnership Reporting Fellowships to COP29

The Climate Change Media Partnership announces the COP29 Reporting Fellowship Program for journalists from low- and middle-income countries interested in covering the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29). The Fellowship will cover economy-class airfare, accommodation, meals, travel medical insurance, and ground transportation costs related to participation. The deadline is 06 June 2024. Link to CCMP

Charles Stewart Mott Foundation — Environmental Grant Making

The Mott Foundation funds grants in the United States and, on a limited geographic basis, internationally. The theme “Environment” supports projects around the world that protect communities and the ecosystems upon which they depend. The program “Transforming Development Finance” aims to guard against unwise capital investments in large-scale dams, extractive industries, and other major projects which threaten environmental sustainability and local economic opportunity in China, Latin America, and other regions of the developing world. The program “Advancing Climate Change Solutions” makes grants to reduce policy and financial barriers to investments in clean energy, and to provide technical assistance and networking opportunities to communities in the Amazon and Sub-Saharan Africa. Yale School of the Environment — Film Contest

The Yale Environment 360 Film Contest accepts entries of environmental films from around the world. Submissions should focus on an environmental issue and be a maximum of 20 minutes in length. Climate Tracker — Caribbean Climate Justice Journalism Fellowship

Climate Tracker selects fellows for a 5 months training experience with a range of environmental, storytelling, and journalism experts. Participants will get the chance to put what they’ve learned into practice, by engaging in new media journalism, through podcasts, social media storytelling, and newsletters. Fellows receive a monthly stipend of US$200 to publish climate stories. Eligibility extends to Caribbean journalists interested in covering climate justice. The deadline to apply is 22 April 2024.
