The Mediterranean Sea Basin Program is a cross-border cooperation initiative implemented by the EU and neighboring coastal territories. The ENI CBC Med finances cooperation projects with focus on biodiversity conservation, climate change, and pollution for a more sustainable Mediterranean area. ENI CBC Med accepts applications for capitalization projects in the following priority areas: Water Management, Waste Treatment and Recycling, Renewable Energy, Integrated Coastal Zone Management. International Water Center — International Masters Scholarships (Integrated Water Management)
Australia’s International Water Center announces funding for international candidates accepted into the Master of Integrated Water Management in Australia. Two scholarships will cover full tuition and living expenses of up to AU$95,564 (Type A Scholarship), and a third will cover full tuition of up to AU$58,989 (Type B Scholarship). Applications are invited from eligible countries in Asia-Pacific; Africa; Latin America and Caribbean; the Middle East; Europe; and North America. Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association — Innovation for Sustainability Grant
WIOMSA seeks innovative projects (demonstration and pilot projects) that address modern-day marine sustainability challenges to bridge the gap between marine research and innovation. The goal of the Innovation for Sustainability Grant program is to support the development and testing of concepts and new approaches that address and enhance the understanding of marine and coastal environmental issues. The proposals should be submitted by an institution or a consortium (government departments, research and academic institutions, NGOs, CBOs, or private companies). British Council — Newton Fund Impact Scheme
The Newton Fund Impact Scheme (NFIS) provides funding for current and previously funded Newton Fund grantees with the aim to build upon the original partnership or form a new partnership. The grants will provide funding for initiating or increasing policy impacts, or initiating or increasing engagement with impact multipliers (e.g. businesses, NGOs, or charities). Grants can be up to a maximum of £160 thousand for up to two years. Eligible partner countries for the 2020 call for applicants are Egypt, Indonesia, and Thailand. The British Academy — Research Chair in Sustainability (Jordan)
The goal of the Jordan-UK El Hassan bin Talal Research Chair in Sustainability is to enhance the research and innovation capacity of Jordan for long-term sustainable development. The call is open to applicants with expertise in any area relevant to sustainability, including but not limited to food security, water, energy and the environment, climate change, and sustainable livelihoods. Scholars will be placed for a full-time four-year appointment at the RSS in Amman, Jordan. The available award is up to £240 thousand per year over 4 years. The application deadline is 06 May 2020. Beyond Plastic Med — Reduce Plastic Pollution in the Mediterranean Islands
Beyond Plastic Med (BeMed) launches a call for projects to reduce plastic pollution in the Mediterranean islands. BeMed’s contribution is €100 thousand per project (up to 70% of the total project value). Project duration should not exceed 24 months. The call is open all the countries around the Mediterranean. Proposed projects must target a Mediterranean island (or a set of islands). Organizations developing activities in the areas of awareness raising, environmental protection and lobbying, or the development of innovative solutions to reduce pollution are especially welcome to apply. Humboldt University — Yousef Jameel Scholarship Fund 2020-2021
The Yousef Jameel Scholarship Fund at Humboldt University annually awards five scholarships for doctoral studies in the natural sciences to applicants from Arabic countries. The program seeks applicants in the disciplines of sustainable desert agriculture; plant-based medicine; and renewable energy. The stipend awarded is €1340 per month, plus material expenses. Applicants should have good written and spoken English, as well as communications skills in German. Applications from qualified women are particularly encouraged. Newton Fund — Newton Prize for Excellence in Research and Innovation
The Newton Prize recognizes the best research or innovation projects that promote economic development and social welfare. In 2020, the Prize celebrates the impacts made as a result of international collaborations in Newton partner countries (Egypt, Kenya, Jordan, Turkey, and South Africa). One Newton Prize of up to £200 thousand will be awarded to each of the 5 eligible partner countries. The award is open to applicants who currently hold a Newton award. Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund — Biodiversity Conservation in the Mediterranean Basin (Tunisia)
The Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) makes small grants (US$ 5-8 thousand) to private enterprises in Tunisia in support of biodiversity conservation in coastal areas in the Mediterranean region. The overall aim of this call is to engage private sector stakeholders to adopt sustainable practices. Projects should be implemented in the future marine protected area (MPA) of Zembra and Zembretta. U.S. Department of Agriculture — Borlaug Fellowships in Agricultural Science and Technology
The Borlaug Fellowship Program supports short-term research projects to improve agricultural productivity, economic development, and food security in over developing countries. The program offers training and collaborative opportunities for agricultural research, international agricultural economics, leadership, and policy. The program lists the eligible countries, and the research priorities for each of them. Fellows work one-on-one with a U.S. mentor who will coordinate the training program. After completion of the 6 months fellowship, the mentor will visit the fellow’s home institution to continue collaboration. USDA will select U.S. host institutions and mentors for each fellow.
