Grant proposals are invited for either captive or wild primate-oriented research projects. The Knight Science Journalism Program at MIT seeks journalists from Africa or the Middle East. Participants will receive specialized training, to help reporters and editors from the region to further develop a successful career in science journalism. The selected fellow will join a program of study at MIT and receive a US$40 thousand stipend for the semester. Swedish Institute — Women’s Social Enterprise in the MENA Region
The Swedish Institute supports “She Entrepreneurs” to develop women’s leadership in social enterprise in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA region). She Entrepreneurs is intended for women who have already started to build a social business (possibly in subject areas relevant to the Terra Viva Grants Directory). The program consists of seminars, workshops, and interactive learning methods mixed with reflection sessions, team-building, and practical exercises. The Swedish Institute covers the costs of participating in the training program. Bayer Foundation — Women Empowerment Award
The Bayer Foundation Women Empowerment Award (WEA) recognizes women pioneering in health, nutrition, and related climate-smart solutions. Fifteen female entrepreneurs will get the chance to join the 6-month Accelerator Program and receive €25 thousand in support of their business. To qualify, applicants must center their solutions around health, nutrition, and their intersection with climate-related challenges. The award seeks to support women entrepreneurs driving impactful solutions in the Asia Pacific region, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. The application deadline is 27 March 2024. Conservation, Food and Health Foundation — Local Project Support
The Conservation, Food and Health Foundation supports special projects and programs in the areas of conservation, food, and health in low- and lower-middle-income countries in Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. The foundation supports projects that demonstrate local leadership; develop the capacity of local organizations; and address a particular problem or question in the field. Eligibility extends to NGOs, community-based organizations, and academic institutions. There is no maximum grant size. The average grant is approx. US$20 thousand. Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development — Fellowships Program
The Arab Fund Fellowships Program provides Arab Ph.D. holders with opportunities to conduct research and/or teach internationally. The fellowship provides maintenance allowances (about US$50 thousand over a period of 12 months), round-trip tickets for the beneficiaries and the eligible members of their families. Arab nationals who are currently working at universities in Arab member countries are eligible to apply. Bridges for Enterprise (BfE) works with social impact startups from Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. The Incubation Program supports entrepreneurs seeking to solve some of the world’s most urgent challenges. The program is open to for-profit and non-profit social enterprises and startups at the pre-seed or seed stage. Participating entrepreneurs receive 3 to 4 months of professional advice and mentorship. Applications can be submitted on a rolling basis year-round. British Council — Scholarships for Women in STEM
The British Council launches a scholarship program in partnership with UK universities to benefit women from the Americas, South Asia, South East Asia, Egypt, Turkey, and Ukraine. The scholarship provides women with a background in STEM with financial support to inspire future generations of women to pursue careers in STEM. The Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development (AFESD) finances development projects in countries of the League of Arab States. Grants can be used for technical and economic feasibility studies; or seminars and conferences. Thematic areas include agriculture and dry lands, water supply, environment, and many others. Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area — Water Management
The Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA) launches a new call for proposals. Projects should focus on sustainable water management to combat land degradation and desertification and promote ecosystem restoration. Up to four projects will receive up to €4.1 million each for 36 months. Companies, enterprises, non-profit organizations, NGOs, public research organizations, and universities from the following non-EU countries are eligible: Israel, Tunisia, Turkey, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Morocco.
