U.S. National Science Foundation — Graduate Research Opportunities Worldwide 2019

The program GROW provides funding support to U.S. graduate students to engage in international research cooperation. GROW Fellows will receive a travel allowance of US$5 thousand to cover travel and research costs associated with the international research collaboration. Collaboration is with partner institutions in Australia, Austria, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, India, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Qatar, Singapore, and Sweden. Eligible fellows must must be enrolled at U.S. institutions, and have completed at least one year of their graduate program at the time of application. The application deadline is 01 February 2019. Belmont Forum — Research for Ocean Sustainability

The Belmont Forum calls for global partnerships of academics and non-academics to address conservation and the sustainable use of the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. This call aims to support medium-size research projects with a direction of three to four years, with a recommended budget of up to €1.5 million. Research consortia must include at least three participating partner organizations established in three different countries to be eligible under this call. Participating countries are: Brazil, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Japan, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sweden, USA, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Comoros and Madagascar. European Commission — Grants for the Blue Economy

The European Commission seeks proposals for projects based on innovative technologies and solutions for the blue economy. The estimated contribution per project is between €500 thousand and €1 million. Eligibility extends to private and public entities, or international organisations located in an EU Member State or projects with activities extending to neighbouring waters outside the territory of the EU (eligible countries and regions are listed in the call for proposals). Swiss Forum for International Agricultural Research — Young Scientists Mobility Grants with MENA Countries

Mobility grants allow researchers and students to build personal contacts and relationships for collaborations between institutions. Mobility grants can be awarded to young scientists who hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree and with not more than 6 years of professional research experience. Activities may include field work and/or an internship in relation to the applicant’s research project. The call is open for activities in all scientific disciplines and fields of research. Priority countries under this call are: Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates. Mediterranean Marine Protected Areas Network — Grants for Small Projects

MedPAN launches a new call for small projects to support Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Mediterranean. The grants will reinforce the management of MPAs from the perspective of integrated coastal zone management and sustainable financing. They will also promote habitat mapping and the protection of marine turtles. The eligible countries are Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, the Palestinian Territories, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Monaco, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Albania. European Commission — Sustainable Agriculture Practices in Palestine

The objective of this call is to promote social and economic development in Palestine to a more sustainable economic development towards a green economy. This call will support projects that focus on agriculture growth and profitability by provision of adequate sustainable means for better access to and utilisation of land and water. Grants requested for this purpose must fall between the amounts of € 1,9 million and € 3,8 million. Eligibility extends to non-governmental organisations, public sector operators, local authorities, and international (inter-governmental) organisations established in a Member State of the European Union or in Palestine. IHE Delft Institute for Water Education — Research for Development Proposals

IHE Delft announces a call for “Research for Development Proposals led by Institutes from Developing Countries”. The purpose of this call is to encourage collaboration between researchers from developing countries and to stimulate problem-orientated research to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to water and development. Projects may apply for €100 thousand and should address one or more of the following themes: (i) Gender and inclusiveness in relation to water and development; (ii) Efficient water management, particularly in the agricultural sector; (iii) Improved catchment area management and safe deltas; (iv) Access to clean drinking water and basic sanitation; (v) Water diplomacy. Euromena Consulting launches the Euromena Awards – MENA Edition. The awards are intended for companies or innovative projects with social, economic, environmental and/or societal impact. Proposed projects should be related to MENA and/or be established in the region. DIRAJ invites applications from journalists located in Africa and the Arab States for the first Media Awards on disaster risk prevention, reduction and recovery.
