Euromena Consulting — Awards for MENA Start-ups

Euromena Consulting launches the Euromena Awards – MENA Edition. The awards are intended for companies or innovative projects with social, economic, environmental and/or societal impact. Proposed projects should be related to MENA and/or be established in the region. The three winners will receive coaching and support for 6 months and the 1st place startup receives a €10 thousand financial reward. Applications must be sent before 29 October 2018. Find out more

Disaster Risk Reduction Network of Africa Journalists — DIRAJ Media Awards

DIRAJ invites applications from journalists located in Africa and the Arab States for the first Media Awards on disaster risk prevention, reduction and recovery. This award is open for accredited Journalists working in television, radio, print media and verified news websites. Winners will receive a cash award and mentorship. UNESCO — Capacity Building Program for World Heritage Professionals in the Arab Region

UNESCO ARC-WH invites applications for a capacity building programme for World Heritage professionals in the Arab Region. The pilot workshop aims at building a strong network of experts and will be held from 9 – 13 December 2018 in Bahrain. Participants must have at least 5 years experience working in the field of Cultural and/or Natural Heritage. The costs of the participants is covered by the ARC-WH. Arab Council for the Social Sciences — Research Grants 2019-2020

The Arab Council for the Social Sciences announces the fifth cycle of its research grants program on the theme of “Environmentalism, Impoverishment, and Social Justice Movements: Interdisciplinary Perspectives”. The research should focus primarily on Arab societies, with priority given to researchers residing in the Arab region. Grants of up to US$20 thousand will be available to individual researchers; research teams can apply for up to US$50 thousand. Grants are intended to support a maximum timeline of 18 months. GSMA — Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation Fund

The GSMA Mobile for Humanitarian Innovation Fund seeks innovations in the use of mobile technology to address humanitarian challenges. This funding round will test new technical solutions and catalyse ideas to improve food security and adaptation/resilience to climate change, among others. Projects should be implemented in Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and North Africa, or Latin America. Funding of up to £300 thousand per project is available, as well as mentoring, and project support. Applications will close on 10 August 2018. Find the opportunity

Mission Innovation — Carbon Capture Innovation Challenge

Mission Innovation (MI) seeks to identify technologies in the field of CO2 capture, separation, storage and CO2 value addition. The funding of US$ 200 thousand to US$1 million under this call will be available to support activities towards design, research & development of technologies that can address widely affordable ways for carbon capture. The project has to be led by a scientist from India with the participation of at least one MI member country (including China, Indonesia, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia, among others). Kingdom of Saudi Arabia — Award for Environmental Management in the Islamic World

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Award for Environmental Management in the Islamic World (KSAAEM) accepts applications for its current edition (2018-2019). The Award aims at consolidating the broad concept of environmental management in the Islamic world; encouraging sustainable development; and publicizing the outstanding efforts and successful practices in the field of environmental management. African Women’s Development Fund — Empowering African Women

The African Women’s Development Fund supports organizations working towards the empowerment of African women and the achievement of gender equality on the continent. To increase income opportunities for women, projects can work with smallholder women farmers, and address issues of climate change and food security. Applicant organizations must have at least three years of experience, be led by a woman, and have a focus on women’s rights. Grants range from US$20 thousand to US$500 thousand for up to two years. British Council — Newton-Mosharafa Science Innovation

The Newton-Mosharafa Fund supports British and Egyptian scientific researchers and innovators to find joint solutions to the challenges facing Egypt in economic development and social welfare through training and researcher mobility schemes. The five focus areas of the currently open call include sustainable water management, renewable energy, and sustainable food production; among two others. The PhD Programme supports Egyptian researchers to do their PhD at UK Higher Education institutions. The call is open until 26 July 2018. Find details here

U.S. Department of State — Environmental Governance

The U.S. Department of State announces a funding opportunity for Environmental Governance. The purpose of this project is to improve environmental governance, particularly to address the challenges of air pollution, water, and waste management in Morocco, Jordan, Oman, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, and/or Honduras. OES/EQT will fund one to three cooperative agreements for up to US$800 thousand. Eligibility extends to NGOs and universities in the U.S. and eligible countries.
