German Federal Ministry of Education and Research — International Disaster and Risk Management

The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) announces the IKARIM – Call for Proposals. The IKARIM grant aims to jointly develop and implement innovative and application-oriented solutions in the fields of disaster prevention, disaster management and restoration in order to strengthen the resilience of the partnering countries against natural and technical risks. International co-operations with selected African and Asian countries are an essential part of this call. Focus countries are Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Cameroon, Madagascar, South Africa, Tunisia, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. World Wide Fund For Nature — Prince Bernhard Scholarships for Nature Conservation 2018

WWF supports professional training and formal studies of individuals working in disciplines directly relevant to nature conservation. Eligibility extends to mid-career nationals from Africa; Asia and Pacific; Latin America and Caribbean; Eastern Europe; and the Middle East. The maximum grant is CHF 10 thousand for studies or training lasting one year or less. The deadline for applications (English, French, Spanish) is 01 January 2018. About the scholarships

Water Joint Programming Initiative — Water Resource Management

The Water JPI aims to enable transnational, collaborative research, development and innovation projects addressing questions relating to water challenges. Proposals are invited on the topic “Water resource management in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals”. Only proposals submitted by transnational consortia will be eligible (each consortium must be composed of at least a minimum of three eligible partners from three different countries). Eligibility extends to universities, public research institutions, private non-profit organisations, and private companies. The requested budget per proposal must not exceed € 1.5 million. UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development — Training Course on Green Industry

The UNIDO Institute for Capacity Development is organizing a training course on Green Industrial Development in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain (3-7 December 2017). The course is targeted at policymakers from Arab and African countries. Participants will get a better understanding of the most pressing environmental trends and issues and look at energy efficiency, renewable energy and emissions abatement, among other themes. Selected participants will be provided with travel and accommodation. Deadline for applications is 22 October 2017. Potential candidates are required to submit their applications through UNIDO

Association of African Universities — Small Grants for Theses and Dissertations

The AAU is pleased to announce the 2017 session of its Small Grants for Theses and Dissertations. The programme aims to facilitate timely completion of post-graduate research in subjects that include agriculture and food security; environment and climate; and others. Applicants should be post-graduate students enrolled in AAU member institutions. Post-graduate students who are lecturers in AAU member institutions, and female candidates, are especially encouraged to apply. Netherlands Fellowship Program — KOP Funding for Short Courses

The Netherlands Fellowship Program has started a new phase under the name KOP (Kennisontwikkelings programma). The first round of KOP offers scholarships for short courses in the Netherlands to applicants from the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Bhutan, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cuba, Djibouti, Dem Rep Congo, Georgia, India, Jordan, Lebanon, Macedonia, Mongolia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Surinam, Thailand, and Zimbabwe. The subject areas for short courses include many in agriculture and environment, among others. Applicants in participating countries study the course database to find short courses eligible for scholarships. The profile of each course identifies the application deadline and how to apply to the Dutch university, including contact information.  For candidates that are selected, the Dutch university submits the application for KOP scholarships. Qatar National Research Fund — Qatar-UK Research Networking

The Qatar National Research Fund, in collaboration with UK partners, is launching the Qatar-UK Research Networking Programme. The joint programme is designed to support the participation of early-career researchers in workshops focusing on building links for future collaboration between Qatar and the UK. Thematic areas include energy and environment, among others. Workshop grants are up to US $50 thousand. The submission deadline is 28 September 2017. About the programme

European Commission — Mediterranean Cross-Border Cooperation

The EC announces the first call for proposals of the ENI CBC “Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2014-2020″. The program aims to promote business and entrepreneurship (including in agriculture), and to promote coordination of efforts for environmental protection and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Project partnerships should be composed of a minimum of three eligible countries, including at least one EU Mediterranean Country and one Mediterranean Partner Country. Partner countries are Jordan, Palestinian Territories, and Tunisia (and others expected to be announced soon). The closing date for project submissions is 09 November 2017. Find more information

European Commission — ERANETMED Research on Environment in the Mediterranean Region, 3rd Joint Call

Europe’s ERA-NET promotes the coordination of research at national and regional levels in the EU’s member states and associated states through research networking and the mutual opening of national and regional research programs. The current call by ERANETMED focuses on sustainable water management for vulnerable communities in the Euro-Mediterranean countries. Participating countries are Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, and Turkey. Applicants in these countries must be eligible for funding according to the regulations of their respective national funding agencies. The deadline for proposals is 14 July 2017. Link

French Institute for Development Research — Support for International Research Teams 2017

The French Institute for Development Research (IRD) announces funding to support multidisciplinary international teams (laboratoires mixtes internationaux, LMI) to undertake research that corresponds to IRD’s thematic priorities. These priorities vary by geographical region to include food production and security; plant-health relationships; water resources; energy resources; ecosystems and biodiversity; natural risks; and others.
